Moses said to Joshua, "Would that
all the people of the Lord were prophets!
Would that the Lord might bestow his Spirit on them all!" (Numbers 11:29)
What Moses did not know when he shared this wish with his
aide, Joshua, was that all of us have been bestowed with God's Spirit and that
the gift of prophecy is available to us all.
Prophecy, as it is understood in scripture, is the ability to see the Presence
and Action of God in our midst. A
prophet is not one who can predict the future, but one to can see the signs of
the times - that can observe what is going on in the world around us and
through their connection with the wisdom of God that is within, "predict" where
things may be going. This is a prophet
in the true biblical sense.
In order to accept the gift of prophecy that is available to
all of us, we need to be open to seeing with God's eyes, rather than with our
own. Cultivating our "God vision" is a
matter of setting aside our egos so that we can see beyond our own limited
perceptions, attachments, false perceptions and prejudices. We have to see beyond the fear that clouds
our human vision and open to see what God would reveal instead. This is a process that above all requires
humility.
Humility is the recognition that in our human condition, we
are limited. We are limited by our
desires, our fears and our egos. We see
what we want to see and believe what we want to believe. In order to see with God's eyes, we have to surrender
our conditioning, let go of our egoic desires and allow ourselves to be
startled. Seeing with God's eyes will
challenge our beliefs. In seeing with
God's eyes, the lies, deceit and manipulation of the human condition shall fall
away and we see through the doorway of truth.
Do we have the courage to trust what God will reveal to us beyond the
veil?
I see and I know.
My eyes are a doorway to truth.
I see and I know.
There are no lies, deceit or
manipulation that can escape my vision.
I see clearly and I know.
The veil of darkness no longer
covers my eyes.
The blinds have been lifted, the
shields have fallen away.
I see and I know.
I see and I believe.
I see and I am.
