Cleaning sterling silver the 'green' way
You don't need fancy polishes or chemicals to clean sterling silver. Here's an easy to do it with readily available household products.
You will need baking soda, aluminum foil, and boiling water. Line the bottom of a glass dish with crumpled up aluminum foil. Sprinkle baking soda on it.
Lay your jewelry on the foil carefully. Then pour on the boiling water. You will see it fizz and as if by magic, the tarnish will disappear! The chemical reaction of the baking soda and aluminum cleans off the tarnish!
Simply dry your jewelry and you are ready to wear it again! Won't harm stones unless they are organic or soft like pearls, coral, opal, azurite, etc.

Dear Jewelry Fans,
Lots of things happening!!! In response to your comments, I am lining up the fairs for the summer to give everyone a way to see the jewelry and more importantly, try it on! I just finished up an exhibition in Portsmouth and a Fashion Show in Kittery. A big welcome to the new gdesign fans I met there! The next opportunity to see the gdesign collections is in May, on the Sunday and Monday of Memorial Day, in Newburyport. Hope to see you there. Some friendly faces always help to brighten the day. To make it easier to find things, now that the choices are growing, I have made some new galleries so you can browse the gdesign collections by evening wear, office, and casual selections.

Freshwater pearls, all the colors of the rainbow
Freshwater pearls come from freshwater mussels. They are produced in Japan and the United States on a limited scale, but most commercial production is in China. There is a freshwater pearl farm in Tennessee as well.
The 'grafting' process of inserting material into the mussel to force the pearl production is considered much easier than with the saltwater oysters. Freshwater pearl harvests are usually purchased while still in the shell. Then they are cleaned sorted into size and shape. The next step is being pre-treated in a warm and cold chemical solution, bleached, and then drilled and polished with a mixture of cornmeal and wax. It's at this point that they are dyed into the brilliant colors of today's fashion designer freshwater pearls.
