Spores, Gills, and Fruiting Bodies...An Exploration into the World of Mushrooms
with Mycologist, Wendy Monroe
Saturday, August 13
11am-4pm
$20/day - Preregistration is required.
Learn about mushrooms and how they are used in cultures around the world. Take a mushroom walk in the forest and find fungi where you never expected. After the foray, learn about the native mushrooms harvested with an introduction to identification techniques, including spore prints. This workshop is a great way to introduce children and adults to the magical world of mycology.

As a child, Wendy Monroe hunted mushrooms with her Viking uncles in the woodland forests of Iowa. She studied tree science and has a degree in English with an emphasis on magical realism, which comes in handy during her forays into the world of mushrooms. Wendy studied mycology at Mycobiological Laboratories from 2005-2009 where she cultured and grew 35 strains of medicinal, gourmet, and native mushrooms. She teaches classes and workshops and has presented with Transition Colorado and Bioneers. Her latest adventures have taken her to Costa Rica where she is studying native plants and medicines. Wendy is the creator and owner of Native Medicinals, a small business that produces natural medicines from the natural world. Her latest adventures have taken her to Costa Rica where she is studying native plants and mushrooms and their application in natural medicines.
