Complexity/Pain - Remove it From Your Business?
by Rick Wallace

I have found the amount of complexity or pain in any business is in direct proportion to the lack of desire or willingness by the owner to address it.

In other words, if you have an area of your business that is a bottleneck or is so complex that "I have to do it because no one knows how" - then I will bet my bottom dollar you avoid or are very uncomfortable addressing it  head on and making some changes.

Here's an example:

"My sales are not where they need to be. My salespeople are just not getting it done. I have to go out and sell to make it happen myself."

Well there is no doubt that sales are extremely important. The owner is good at it so he/she is doing the right thing to keep doing it. But so many owners stop there and continue to worry and fret and say, "I can't find good people".  I have found that the truth is usually that they have not stepped back and really addressed and focused on the issue - finding good people.

Maybe they have tried so many times and the people they brought in have not succeeded so they dread doing it all over again. They don't want to have to take the time to recruit, train and coach another person that fails. They avoid it like the plague and stick with what they have, gut it out, and say "I'll just keep working harder and I'll think about it tomorrow."

Why do most of us do this? One of 5 Things is usually the answer. What are the 5 enemies of that we all need to overcome to take action?
