Yes We Can, Sí Se Puede...and We Are: Transformational Dialogue between Latinos and Blacks for Understanding, Healing and Social Justice!

LJS & Associates is honored to offer this transformative workshop aimed at deepening trust and strengthening connections between the Black and Latino communities. As the 2010 census begins, conversations about "majority minority," "new" and "old" political power bases have the potential to intensify existing tensions and fuel stereotypes. Given this context, it is the perfect time to explore our shared history as we create a foundation for building a future rooted in understanding and cooperation.

Today the phrases "Blacks and Latinos" or "Black and Brown" are commonplace in policy, political, and community discussions. Race, class, and gender inequities in education, immigration, health, criminal justice, religion, economics and other areas impact each of our communities - in similar and in distinct ways. We will look at these issues and go one step further to learn from each other about how our cultures celebrate, honor family, mourn and create community.

Seize this moment to come together as we challenge and dismantle the misinformation and stereotypes that fuel the tension and seek to divide our communities. With 15 years of experience in cross-cultural communication training and facilitation, LJS brings you a customized two-day community-building workshop to encourage open sharing, honest dialogue, trust building and emotional healing between Latinos and Blacks as we move forward together into the 21st century.

During this workshop we will:

  • Share and listen to each others' experiences as Latinos and Blacks;
  • Expand understanding of the histories that shape our cultures and communities;
  • Address controversial "wedge" issues used to divide us;
  • Deepen the capacity for trust-and confirm the importance of doing so;
  • Celebrate the beauty of our unique and shared cultural expressions through music, art, and storytelling;
  • Be inspired, connected, and prepared to build new relationships between our communities we move forward as allies.

Now is the time! Please join us for this unique opportunity to look inside and discover who you are as an individual, who we are as a people and who we want to become in knowing each other.
