Preparing to Say Farewell
It's with mixed emotion that the LJS team prepares to say goodbye to Kati West,
our beloved Executive Coordinator. Kati is getting ready to embark on the
ultimate adventure and is leaving LJS to focus her energy and efforts on
raising her soon-to-be-here baby. Kati has done an outstanding job of
coordinating seminars nationally and internationally and managing LJS's home
office in Portland, OR over the last 2 years. We will miss her enthusiastic
personality, steadfast commitment to LJS's mission, and amazing capacity to
juggle multiple projects--all the while staying calm and focused in the midst of
it all. "It's hard to believe it's been 2 years already! Kati quickly
became an invaluable part of the LJS team and I will miss her," says
Nanci.
With Kati's departure, please help us welcome Larisa Eichacker to the LJS team
as the new Executive Coordinator. Larisa will be profiled in our April
newsletter so you can learn more about her. Stay tuned!

Community
Building in Partnership
LJS
collaborated with long-time client, Escuela Popular, to host a 2-day bilingual community workshop in San
Jose, CA on January 23-24, 2010. Nanci and Barbara MacKay were honored to
present Transformational
Communication: Tools for Cross-Cultural Understanding and Inclusion to EP staff and faculty as well as students, invited guests and members of the extended EP community. Escuela Popular is a bilingual
school community--from childcare through adult high school--that sees education
as a transformative act. Our congratulations to Escuela Popular, who, after 24
years of searching, will have a new home on the 8 acre campus of a recently
closed middle school! The new school
opens in August 2010.

Transforming
Those Who Support the Transformations of Others
With
an invaluable team of assistants, Nanci conducted two additional Transformational
Communication
workshops for Volunteers of America, Oregon
in January and February. Volunteers of America, Oregon is committed to offering
ongoing skills training and development for staff members who work to meet the
needs of a wide variety of service recipients. VOA offers programs for children and families, seniors, and those in treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.

Compassionate
Care for Our Elders
Also
in January, Nanci, with the support of yet another fabulous assistant, presented
Transformational
Communication at an
All-Staff In-Service at Providence ElderPlace. This In-Service marked the start
of another year of diversity programming to enhance skills and awareness in
working together and serving elders in the community. Providence ElderPlace
offers a cutting edge Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE).
Nanci was moved by the staff's level of participation and their excitement
about the event and the skills they put to use--right away!

Creative
Approaches to Training the Top Latina Leaders of Today With
a combined total of 26 years of history working with the National Hispana Leadership Institute, Nanci and LJS Associate
Lillian Roybal Rose offered a 2-day program to kick-off NHLI's Executive
Leaders Fellowship Program. Nanci and Lillian combined elements of the Transformation
Communication, Transformational Teams,
Transformational Leaders
and Transformational
Women workshops to
create a unique training experience for the 22 Latinas selected for this
prestigious learning opportunity.
