 Nanci and Shoshanna will present a

What You Don't Know: The Facilitator's Path to Authentic Cross-Cultural
Practice at the first ever IAF Caribbean Conference in Bridgetown, Barbados in late September.
In November, Nanci will partner
with NHLI for two events that are open for anyone to attend! The first is a
workshop session Hombres at Work: What
Helps and Hinders Latinas to Work More Effectively with Men in the Workplace
at this year's annual conference. As President, Cristina Lopez shared, "The
National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) looks forward to having Nanci
present at the 2009 Executive Leadership Training Conference and Mujer Awards November 5-6 in Albuquerque, New Mexico." The second opportunity, also in

In early December Nanci and Barbara
MacKay return to Philadelphia to deliver an advanced 2-day Transformational Leadership training for SERK. Nanci has also been invited to deliver the
keynote address for the 4th Annual Partners Retreat for the SE
Regional Key.
Next Nanci will join LJS
Associate, Linda Ximenes in San Antonio, TX where they will present a 2-day Transformational Leadership: Skills
Deepening for Change Agents seminar with Project Quest, Inc. Project Quest, Inc., is a progressive college skills and job training program that helps prepare
community members to enter the workforce.
Nanci will either close out 2009
or ring in 2010 with a 2-day workshop for Escuela Popular in San Jose, CA.

Building Alliances for Healthier
Families
Nanci
started the year off in Denver, CO whereshe facilitated a Transformational Communication:
Building Alliances for Authentic Cross Cultural Alliances workshop for
the Nurse-Family Partnership, Inc.
This innovative program provides ongoing home visits by registered nurses
to vulnerable first time mothers and their babies.
Connecting Latina Leaders for Change
At the
end of February, Nanci presented her annual program for the2009 Class of
National Hispana Leadership Institute (NHLI) fellows inSan Bautista, CA
and again in June for the Latinas Learning to Lead Summer Institute hosted at Catholic University in Washington, DC.
Yale Latinos Reunited
In
April Nanci attended the first Yale Latino Reunion, where over 300 Latino Alums gathered-including our newest Supreme Court
Justice, Sonia Sotomayor. Nanci also conducted a workshop entitled Reinventing Your Career-Following Your
Passion during the event.

Borders
Also
in April, Nanci was honored to once again present a two day pre-conference
workshop: for
the International Association of Facilitators North America Conference in Vancouver, BC with Associates Barbara MacKay and Shoshanna Cogan. For
the first time, Nanci also presented a concurrent session during the
annual conference.
Charter School Deepens
Diversity Practice
Back home
in Portland, OR, Nanci delivered a talk, From Words into Actions: Personal Transformation, Educational
Change, and Social Justice, to faculty and staff at Catlin Gabel, a
private school for K-12 students, which hosts an annual diversity
conference. She also provided on-going support for planning and implementation
for diversity initiatives. Developing PA Early Childhood
Leadership
In
early June, Nanci, Barb and Shoshanna reunited to deliver the Transformational Leadership: Developing
and Supporting Effective Change Agents workshop in Philadelphia, PA
for Southeast Regional Key (SERK). SERK is part of the Caring People Alliance and is a program that works to
assist businesses and other organizations with the provision of quality,
affordable childcare.
Listening and Learning: County
Workers Engaged
In
early June Nanci led a series of workshops for ClackamasCounty's
Department of Employee Services (DES) in Oregon that focused on institutional racism, privilege, and cross
cultural understanding. Emmett Wheatfall, the Diversity Manager for DES,
shared, "What's most extraordinary about Nanci's work is the graceful way
she communicates and moderates the information presented and discussed.
Based on the exceptional evaluations received, Nanci is worthy of praise
for the training and consultant services she provided our organization."
Community Bicultural
Education Envisioned
In her
ninth year working with Escuela Popular - a bilingual, bicultural community charter school in San Jose, CA - Nanci,
along with Barb, designed and delivered a two-day leadership retreat for
staff and administrators in July. Building on that momentum, in August LJS
Associate Linda Ximenes joined them to deliver Transformational Communication: Tools for Cross-Cultural
Understanding and Inclusion for the EP community. Also in August they were assisted by Dora Asana Perry, Afifa Ahmed-Shafi and Marem Remedios
for a 1-day, bilingual visioning process for over 120 EP staff,
administrators and teachers.
Committed to Cross Cultural Understanding
During
the summer Nanci presented three Transformational Communication: Tools for Cross-Cultural Understanding and Inclusion workshops
for various programs at Volunteers of America, Oregon.
Opening the Door for Difficult Conversations
Towards
the end of the summer, Nanci presented Transformational
Leadership: Cross Cultural Skills-Deepening for Change Agents, for the
Community College Leadership Development Institute (CCLDI)
in San Diego, CA. The Institute is housed by the Institute for Peace and Justice at the University of San Diego. In reflecting on the experience, one
participant shared, "Words cannot express my gratitude for [Nanci's] part
in the CCLDI last week. [She] re-ignited by passion for the need to talk
about race. I had a lengthy discussion with my children when I got home,
and am now very clear on what my vision and actions need to be. Thank you
from my soul."
On the Road to Ending
Adultism
Nanci
was invited to deliver the Opening Plenary Session as well as a concurrent workshop for the 26th Annual Texas Network of Youth Services (TNOYS)
Conference in Austin, TX. Her highly interactive keynote From Training Ground to Playground: Taking Adultism Out of
Childhood was a great success with the almost 500 participants in
attendance. TNOYS is a network of over 60 organizations and individuals
committed to improving services for children and their families in the
state of Texas.
Supporting Sandia To
complete a full summer schedule, Nanci spent a day in early September
presenting and consulting with various groups at Sandia National Laboratories in Livermore, CA.
