Greetings!
This Sunday, we will conclude our reflections on distinctive Methodist doctrines as we explore what it means to not only believe but to emphasize the work of God's perfection (or sanctifying) grace in the life of believers. Our Scripture lessons for this week come from Hebrews and Romans.
Therefore let us go on toward perfection, leaving behind the basic teaching about Christ, and not laying again the foundation: repentance from dead works and faith toward God, instruction about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And we will do this, if God permits. Hebrews 6:1-3 I appeal to you therefore, brothers and sisters, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God-what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:1-2 - According to Hebrews, what does it mean to go on to perfection?
- What are the basic teachings about Christ?
- What does it mean to leave behind those basic teachings?
- What would you need to change in your life in order to leave behind basic teachings about Christ?
- In Romans, Paul calls on us to present our bodies as living sacrifices transformed by the renewal of our minds. What does it mean to present your body as a living sacrifice to God?
- How does God renew our minds?
- What can we do to make ourselves more accessible to the work of God's perfecting grace?
- What difference does it make in our daily lives to realize that God is not through with us after the moment of salvation?
Thanks to all who made last Sunday's Laity Sunday a big success. I particularly want to thank Rocky Harnen for his leadership and for sharing his gift of preaching with New Life. We are truly blessed!
Believe it or not, next weekend we begin Advent! Please mark your calendar to join us for our Hanging of the Greens Service on Sunday, November 28th at 6:30 p.m. Our youth will lead us in this time of worship as we reflect on the meaning and sing many of our favorite Christmas carols. Then on the evenings of Thursday, December 16th and Sunday, December 19th, our children will bless us with their Christmas play (time to be announced soon!). And then on Friday, December 24th, join us at 6:30 p.m. for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service!
Finally, invite your friends and family to join us during worship this Advent as we reflect on what it means to celebrate a Life-Giving Christmas!
Hope you are having a blessed week! See you Sunday!

Your Bible The Study Begins
Teachers: Pastor Sherill and Rocky Harnen
Join us Sunday mornings in the Fellowship Hall for a (re)NEW(ed) Sunday School class. Rocky Harnen's adult class, which has been studying the Andy Griffith and Beverly Hillbillies bible studies, is expanding and exploring new areas. We will begin this week on a 7-week study of the Bible. Join us as we explore how the Bible came to be, ways to study the Bible, and the place of the Bible in our lives.
If you've never really studied the Bible, this is a great place to start. If you have been studying the Bible for years, this is a great place to share, to learn, and to grow.
Join us this Sunday as we get started! |
