Greetings!
This Sunday concludes our Stewardship emphasis and we will
be blessed by the presence of Rev. Joe Estes, who will bring our message! His scripture comes from the book of
Hebrews, which in turn draws from the book of Genesis.
1 Now the Lord said to Abram, "Go from
your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will
show you. 2 I will make of you a
great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will
be a blessing. 3
I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and
in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:1-3
1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped
for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 Indeed, by faith our ancestors received
approval. 3 By faith we understand
that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was made
from things that are not visible.
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called
to set out for a place that he was to receive as an inheritance; and he set out,
not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he stayed for a time in the land
he had been promised, as in a foreign land, living in tents, as did Isaac and
Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he looked forward to
the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God. 11 By faith he received
power of procreation, even though he was too old-and Sarah herself was
barren-because he considered him faithful who had promised. 12 Therefore from one
person, and this one as good as dead, descendants were born, "as many as
the stars of heaven and as the innumerable grains of sand by the
seashore." 13
All of these died in faith without having received the promises, but from a
distance they saw and greeted them. They confessed that they were strangers and
foreigners on the earth, 14
for people who speak in this way make it clear that they are seeking a
homeland. 15 If they had been
thinking of the land that they had left behind, they would have had opportunity
to return. 16 But as it is, they
desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed
to be called their God; indeed, he has prepared a city for them. Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16
The letter to the Hebrews tells us
that faith is the conviction of things not seen. I have a sweatshirt that puts it another way: "Hope is
believing despite the evidence and watching the evidence change."
-
When Sarah overheard the promise that she would give birth in
her old age, she laughed. What
things has God promised that you find laughable?
- How would your life be different if you, like Abraham and
Sarah, laughingly stepped out in faith?
- In verse 13, we are reminded that Abraham and Sarah died
without receiving the promises. How do we keep the faith while waiting for the
promises of God to be fulfilled?
- In what ways has God blessed you to be a
blessing?
Don't forget to join
us for worship on Sunday and for lunch at 12:30 in the Fellowship Hall. Bring
your favorite dishes to share! See you Sunday!

Building a relationship with God doesn't require a contractor's license or an architect's degree, but it does require work on our part. Having the right tools and blueprint will help you construct a solid relationship with our Holy Savior. In truth, building that relationship strong is a lifelong process - we're always "under construction."This year youth will be paying a nominal price for meals on Sunday Nights: $1.00 for pizza, cheeseburger, or nachos and $.50 for soda. The meal is optional. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall until further notice.
Youth Fall Schedule Sunday Night UMYF 5:30 - 7:30 pm in Fellowship Hall On Wednesday Nights youth will assist with Children's Ministry at 6:30 pm
