Greetings!
Summer is here and in full swing! We have several very special events just around the corner.
On July 18th, we'll have a combined VBS service at 10:15 featuring
our children and the lessons they learned during VBS. On August 1st,
our youth will lead us in both services. And on August 15th, we'll
celebrate the 20th anniversary of our congregation with two special
services and a luncheon to follow.
Rev. Beaul Hunkapillar, founder of New Life, will preach our traditional
service and Rev. Phil Howell, who started our contemporary service, will preach
the contemporary service. Be sure
and mark your calendars for these very special events!
Also, this week, we have several of our children at Camp
Sumatanga for Day, Elementary and Special Camps. Please keep Katherine Saylor,
Brittany Saylor (Katherine' cousin), Austin Young, William Brown, CJ Brown, and
Dyllan Young in your prayers!
Craig and I will be leaving for our annual vacation to Tybee
Island, Georgia on Saturday.
The Rev. Nancy Cole, our Natural Church Development coach, will lead you
in worship on Sunday and we will have a video presentation about the youth
mission trip as well as celebrate communion. Nancy's scripture for the week comes from the gospel of
John:
25 When they found him
on the other side of the sea, they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you come
here?" Jesus answered them, "Very
truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but
because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that
perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man
will give you. For it is on him
that God the Father has set his seal."
35 Jesus said to them,
"I am the bread of life. Whoever
comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be
thirsty. 36 But I said to you that
you have seen me and yet do not believe.
37 Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and anyone who comes
to me I will never drive away; 38 for I have come down from heaven, not to do
my own will, but the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him
who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise
it up on the last day. This is
indeed the will of my Father that all who see the Son and believe in him may
have eternal life; and I will raise them up on the last day. John 6: 25-27:
35-40
How
are events in this text similar to what is happening in the world today? Why do
you follow Jesus? What
are people hungering for in the world today including physical, emotional,
and spiritual hunger? How
are you or the church trying to alleviate those hungers?
Have a wonderful week!
Our prayers are with you! |
On July 4th, we will have the pleasure of having Rev. Nancy Cole bring us the message of "Bread of Heaven". Scripture: John 6:25-27 & 35-40.
Bio-Rev. Nancy Cole Take one woman who loves to test and evaluate for a living. Call her to ordained ministry. Throw in a little Natural Church Development (NCD) and stir well. You'll come up with Rev. Nancy Cole, a perfect mix of knowledge, skills and downright passion for the job of NCD Coordinator. With her background in counseling and psycometrics, Nancy is. . .well, a natural to lead the North Alabama Conference in NCD. She gets all excited just thinking about the possibility of every church in the conference taking its first survey, because she sincerely believes that the first survey will fire up each church to take the next step, and the next and the next, toward being a healthier and move vital congregation. On the personal side, Nancy just loves entertaining and cooking, having friends over and serving her specialty of shrimp and grits. She also likes to knit and is involved in a prayer shawl ministry. She considers her husband Steve the perfect clergy spouse; he joins wholeheartedly in ministry at each appointment Nancy has had. Rounding out the family are adult children Tammy, a registered nurse, Jason, an Oxford police officer, and Bo, a data systems technology expert. Nancy and Steve have eight grandchildren and one great-grand. |
