Greetings!
We had a wonderful Pentecost Celebration! The Trinity Handbell Quartet was such a blessing to our traditional service. And, most importantly, what a privilege to be able to pray over our High School graduates as they prepare to move into the next exciting stage of their lives. Congratulations to our High School graduates: Chelsea Brewer (DAR), Emily Carnes (Guntersville), Laura Clontz (Buckhorn), Lauren Daley (Madison Academy), Tara Schrimsher Jennings (DAR), Virginia Robinson (DAR), Shailyn Sibley (DAR), Kayla Van Etten (DAR), and Sam Winkler (DAR). Congratulations also to Rachel Click on her graduation from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Be sure and mark your calendars for Sunday, August 15th! On that day, we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of our congregation. We'll share more details, as we get closer to that date. This week we return to Jesus' final teaching to his disciples. In this passage, Jesus is preparing his disciples for his absence.
12"I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15All that the Father has is mine. For this reason I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. John 16:12-15
- Have you ever needed to tell something that you felt they could not bear? What might Jesus have to say to his disciples that they could not bear? What might Jesus have to say to the church that it cannot bear? What might Jesus have to say to you that you cannot bear?
- Earlier in the evening, Jesus had declared to his disciples, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life."(John 14:6a) and now he declares that "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide into all truth." What is the truth that the Spirit will guide us into?
- What is the purpose of the Spirit according to this teaching?
Look forward to exploring this text with you this Sunday.Pastor Sherill |

NEW LIFE SHEPHERD MINISTRY
In March 2010, we will begin our Shepherd Ministry with zeal.
We need each of you to be praying to find out if God is leading you into this ministry.
The Shepherd Ministry will be making phone calls, visiting, and sending cards to members of our church family.
Each member will receive a list of approximately 8 to 10 families for which you will be responsible for keeping in touch with calls, visits, and/or sending cards.
If God leads, please join us for blessings you won't believe.

"The Fountain" - New Life UMC Monthly Food Drive
New Life United Methodist Church is joining with First Baptist of Grant in support of "The Fountain". For those who may have missed Thames Robinson's excellent article in The Advertiser Gleam, the Fountain distributes food and attempts to provide other help to individuals and families in need who live in the Grant area. This is done every Wednesday morning from the little red church across from Hardees. Bags of food are distributed to local individuals with demonstrated need. The 50 or so individual bags of food are free to clients, but of course are not really free. Even free food from the Alabama and USDA Food Banks carries a transportation service charge. Local businesses and individuals provide much, but additional help is always needed. If you hear of a food donation box or a rail offering to purchase "free" food, every bit of it will stay in the Grant Area and will go to our neighbors in serious need of help.
We will hold a monthly food drive on the
4th Sunday of every month.
Please note the food schedule below
so you will know what to bring! June - Canned Veggies July - Pasta (Mac & Cheese, Spaghetti, etc.) August - Canned Soup or Sauces September - Jams, Jellies, Syrups October - Canned Stew, Chili, Spam |
