Greetings!

What a joy it was to see two young people commit their lives to Christ this past Sunday.  Congratulations to CJ and Will Brown, who completed confirmation classes, and were confirmed last Sunday during the Contemporary Service!

This Sunday we will have yet another opportunity to celebrate an important moment in the life of our youth at New Life as we recognize our graduates and pray a blessing on them and their future plans!  As part of that celebration, the Trinity Handbell Quartet will join us for the Traditional Service.  And please don't forget to bring canned fruit for the Fountain Food Ministry!  I am looking forward to a very special day.

This Sunday is also a special day in the life of the church!  It is Pentecost Sunday, when we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the church.  As we do so, we'll hear from the Apostle Paul as he describes the difference that the Spirit makes in the lives of those who believe:

12So then, brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh- 13for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, "Abba! Father!" 16it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ-if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.  Romans 8:12-17
  • Paul reminds us that those who are led by the Spirit are not just children but heirs of God. What difference does it make to know that we are God's children?  Does it make any difference to know that we have been adopted by God and are, therefore, joint heirs with Christ?  And what does Paul suggest we inherit?
  • What are the things you fear most?  Why do you fear them?  What difference does it make to live free of the spirit of fear?
  • By baptism, we are adopted into God's church and that makes us all family.  What kind of family are we called to be?  If we are family, what responsibilities do we have toward one another?  What needs to change in our lives and in our congregation for us to be a more supportive family for all our members?  And what difference does it make in our lives to identify ourselves as a part of a church family?
Remember those who will be graduating in the coming week in your prayers and come help us celebrate this wonderful moment in their lives!

See you on Sunday!

 NEW LIFE SHEPHERD MINISTRY

In March 2010, we will begin our Shepherd Ministry with zeal.

We need each of you to be praying to find out if God is leading you into this ministry.

The Shepherd Ministry will be making phone calls, visiting, and sending cards to members of our church family.

Each member will receive a list of approximately 8 to 10 families for which you will be responsible for keeping in touch with calls, visits, and/or sending cards.

If God leads, please join us for blessings you won't believe.

"The Fountain" - New Life UMC Monthly Food Drive
New Life United Methodist Church is joining with First Baptist of Grant in support of "The Fountain". For those who may have missed Thames Robinson's excellent article in The Advertiser Gleam, the Fountain distributes food and attempts to provide other help to individuals and families in need who live in the Grant area. This is done every Wednesday morning from the little red church across from Hardees. Bags of food are distributed to local individuals with demonstrated need. The 50 or so individual bags of food are free to clients, but of course are not really free. Even free food from the Alabama and USDA Food Banks carries a transportation service charge. Local businesses and individuals provide much, but additional help is always needed. If you hear of a food donation box or a rail offering to purchase "free" food, every bit of it will stay in the Grant Area and will go to our neighbors in serious need of help.

We will hold a monthly food drive on the
 4th Sunday of every month.
Please note the food schedule below
so you will know what to bring!

May - Canned Fruit
June - Canned Veggies
July - Pasta (Mac & Cheese, Spaghetti, etc.)
August - Canned Soup or Sauces
September - Jams, Jellies, Syrups
October - Canned Stew, Chili, Spam

Lost Bible!
William Brown has lost his Bible! Please be on the lookout for a copy of "The Way" Bible. If found, please bring it to the church office! Thank you so much for your help!
