THE JOURNEY CONTINUES!
And it is not too late to join in the journey with us!
This week we continue our six-week church-wide study designed to help us discern God's vision for New Life UMC. We want EVERYONE to be involved and it is not too late! If you are not currently part of a small group Bible study, we are asking you to participate in one during the next three weeks! In addition to joining an on-going class, Pastor Sherill will teach a class on Sunday Nights at 5:30 p.m in the Fellowship Hall. (Pastor Sherill's class will not meet this Sunday due to the Labor Day Weekend, but will pick up with Lesson 5 on September 13th.) Please continue to keep New Life and God's vision for our ministry in your prayers and get ready for a six-week adventure to God's Promised Land for New Life!

Greetings!
The past three weeks at New Life have been very exciting. We've welcomed two new Christians and two new families into our congregation. Sunday School and worship attendance is up. Our Youth ministry is exploding. God is doing exciting things in our midst. Thanks be to God!
This week we continue our journey toward the Promised Land of God's vision for New Life. And as we go on from here, we reflect on whether or not we are asking the right questions. Our Scripture this week finds Jesus and the disciples also asking a few questions while on a journey.
30They went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; 31for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, "The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again." 32But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him. 33Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, "What were you arguing about on the way?" 34But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. 35He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all." Mark 9:30-35
- What was the question the disciples were asking? What did Jesus ask them? What was their reaction? How would you have felt?
- What does Jesus have to teach us about power?
- What would a church that believes that "whoever wants to be first must be last and servant of all" look like? Where would the power reside? What would its ministries look like?
- Where does power reside at New Life?
- What appears to be limiting New Life's ministries?
- Can you remember a time when a person or group of people at New Life modeled Jesus' leadership by being last of all and servant of all?
See you on Sunday!
