The mission of our Children's Ministry is to plant seeds in the hearts of our children to learn and to know what it is to be a child of God, to experience God's love and grace even at their young age, to be a part of the body of Christ at New Life and know how to use their gifts and talents. To help them grow and develop the heart of a servant to be the future leaders of our church, community, and nation that God is calling them to be. THE JOURNEY CONTINUES!

And it is not too late to join in the journey with us!

This week we continue our six-week church-wide study designed to help us discern God's vision for New Life UMC.  We want EVERYONE to be involved and it is not too late!  If you are not currently part of a small group Bible study, we are asking you to participate in one during the next five weeks!  In addition to joining an on-going class, Pastor Sherill will teach a class on Sunday Nights at 5:30 p.m in the Fellowship Hall.

Please continue to keep New Life and God's vision for our ministry in your prayers and get ready for a six-week adventure to God's Promised Land for New Life!

Greetings!

This week we continue our six-week journey toward identifying God's vision for New Life by continuing our reflection of the giants that the people of Israel discovered dwelled in God's Promised Land.

At the end of forty days they returned from spying out the land.
And they came to Moses and Aaron and to all the congregation of the Israelites in the wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land And they told him, "We came to the land to which you sent us; it flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit.  Yet the people who live in the land are strong, and the towns are fortified and very large; and besides, we saw the descendants of Anak there.  The Amalekites live in the land of the Negeb; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the sea, and along the Jordan."  But Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, "Let us go up at once and occupy it, for we are well able to overcome it."  So they brought to the Israelites an unfavorable report of the land that they had spied out, saying, "The land that we have gone through as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are of great size There we saw the Nephilim (the Anakites come from the Nephilim); and to ourselves we seemed like grasshoppers, and so we seemed to them."

Then all the congregation raised a loud cry, and the people wept that night. And all the Israelites complained against Moses and Aaron; the whole congregation said to them, "Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! Why is the Lord bringing us into this land to fall by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will become booty; would it not be better for us to go back to Egypt?" So they said to one another, "Let us choose a captain, and go back to Egypt."  Then Moses and Aaron fell on their faces before all the assembly of the congregation of the Israelites And Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had spied out the land, tore their clothes and said to all the congregation of the Israelites, "The land that we went through as spies is an exceedingly good land If the Lord is pleased with us, he will bring us into this land and give it to us, a land that flows with milk and honey.  Only, do not rebel against the Lord; and do not fear the people of the land, for they are no more than bread for us; their protection is removed from them, and the Lord is with us; do not fear them."  Numbers 13:17-14:9
  • Why was the congregation of Israel unable to enter the Promised Land?
  • Why was the congregation of Israel powerless to respond to the challenges of the future?
  • How would you describe the Promised Land of joy and unity for New Life?
  • What are the specific giants our congregation faces?
  • How might New Life respond to the challenges before it?

See you on Sunday!
Pastor Sherill

The Shack Bible Study - Pastor's Bible Study

Continuing Wednesday nights at 6:45 in the Fellowship Hall.

The Shack by William P. Young is an independently published novel that has taken the country by storm.  Some people hate it. Some love it. Some find it merely entertaining. Others feel like it has changed their life by changing the way they view God.  Some believe it contains heresy. And others say it is only fiction.  One thing is for sure, The Shack has people discussing what they believe and don't believe about God, about Jesus, about the Holy Spirit, and about forgiveness, judgment, and the life to come!  So this fall, we intend to use this book to explore some basic concepts about our faith and how we apply faith to our daily lives.  Feel free to bring the book with you-but don't forget your Bibles!!!  If you wish to purchase a copy of the book, it is available at most bookstores as well as at Amazon.comAnd if you have no wish to read the book, but want to join in the discussion, I have a summary of the book to share with you so you can fully enter into the conversation.  So come and join us!
