Part-time Children's Director. The mission of our Children's Ministry is to plant seeds in the hearts of our children to learn and to know what it is to be a child of God, to experience God's love and grace even at their young age, to be a part of the body of Christ at New Life and know how to use their gifts and talents. To help them grow and develop the heart of a servant to be the future leaders of our church, community, and nation that God is calling them to be. Please contact the church office at 256-508-3760 or by e-mail at newlifeumc@nehp.net for an application.

JOIN US AS WE JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED LAND!!!
Beginning August 16th, we will enter into a six-week church-wide study designed to help us discern God's vision for New Life UMC. We want EVERYONE to be involved! We are asking all Sunday School and Bible Study groups to study the same material during that six weeks and if you are not currently part of a small group Bible study, we are asking you to participate in one during that six week period! In addition to joining an on-going class, Pastor Sherill will teach a class on Sunday Nights beginning August 9th at 5:30 p.m. On our first night, we will have a fellowship meal together followed by the lesson. Also, each week Pastor Sherill will preach a sermon related to the study that week. More information will be coming soon! In the meantime, please keep New Life and God's vision for our ministry in your prayers and get ready for a six-week adventure to God's Promised Land for New Life!

Greetings!
This week, we continue to reflect on the words of wisdom given to the churches of Ephesus.
15Be careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, 16making the most of the time, because the days are evil. 17So do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but be filled with the Spirit, 19as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, 20giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:15-20
- "Be careful then how you live . . ." How would you live your life differently if you knew that tomorrow was your last day? Would a sense of urgency inspire you to live more boldly or to cower in fear? How can you make better use of the time granted you?
- Do you believe that your life is Spirit-filled? If so, how is that evident to those around you? If not, what stands in the way of allowing the Spirit to fill you and pour out of you?
- What is the role of worship and of singing in the life of faith?
Just a few thoughts as we prepare for worship on Sunday!
See you Sunday!

Wednesday, August 12 dinner and classes begin anew!!!
Mimi's Cafe will cater our meals at a cost of $6 per person. Pre-paid reservations are required. Dinner is served at 6:00 Pastor Sherill will begin teaching on the intrigueing book, The Shack. This little novel has been passed around the Christian community with great interest for several years. It provokes thoughts on the very personal and loving God with whom we are in relationship. Don't miss this opportunity to grow. Classes for children will resume and the Middle School and Sr. High youth will gather as well. |
New Monday Morning Bible Study starting August 17th at 9:00 at the Youth Center (House on the Corner).
Compelled by Love
A Journey to Missional Living
By: Philip Nation and Ed Stetzer
God wants you as His ambassador, to reflect His character and to join His redemptive mission. Jesus' love for you compelled Him to die on the cross. What will your love for Him compel you to do today?
Based on Corinthians 5:14-15 it encourages participants to understand that we are compelled by Christ love to be missionaries where we live.
We hope you can join us, but will need to know if you plan on attending. We will need to order books. If you have already been contacted, no need to respond. Anyone else interested please call BabsHolcomb @ 587-0217 or 599-0562. |

The Shack Bible Study - Pastor's Bible Study
Beginning Wednesday night, August 12th at 6:45 in the Room 4 (the long room in the Old House)
The Shack by WIlliam P. Young was an independently published novel that has taken the country by storm. Some people hate it. Some love it. Some find it merely entertaining. Others feel like it has changed their life by changing the way they view God. Some believe it contains heresy. And others say it is only fiction. One thing is for sure, The Shack has people discussing what they believe and don't believe about God, about Jesus, about the Holy Spirit, and about forgiveness, judgment, and the life to come! So this fall, we intend to use this book to explore some basic concepts about our faith and how we apply faith to our daily lives. Feel free to bring the book with you-but don't forget your Bibles!!! If you wish to purchase a copy of the book, it is available at most bookstores as well as at Amazon.com. And if you have no wish to read the book, but want to join in the discussion, I have a summary of the book to share with you so you can fully enter into the conversation. So come and join us! |
