The mission of our Children's Ministry is to plant seeds in the hearts of our children to learn and to know what it is to be a child of God, to experience God's love and grace even at their young age, to be a part of the body of Christ at New Life and know how to use their gifts and talents. To help them grow and develop the heart of a servant to be the future leaders of our church, community, and nation that God is calling them to be. JOIN US AS WE JOURNEY TO THE PROMISED LAND!!!
Beginning August 16th, we will enter into a six-week church-wide study designed to help us discern God's vision for New Life UMC. We want EVERYONE to be involved! We are asking all Sunday School and Bible Study groups to study the same material during that six weeks and if you are not currently part of a small group Bible study, we are asking you to participate in one during that six week period! In addition to joining an on-going class, Pastor Sherill will teach a class on Sunday Nights beginning at 5:30 p.m. Also, each week Pastor Sherill will preach a sermon related to the study that week.
More information will be coming soon! In the meantime, please keep New Life and God's vision for our ministry in your prayers and get ready for a six week adventure to God's Promised Land for New Life! |

Can't You See Them Circling?
This week concludes our Jimmy Buffett sermon series as we reflect on the temptation and sin. At our Contemporary Service we will also celebrate the end of Youth Week and we hope to hear and see some from our youth about what they have learned and experienced this week.
The Scripture this week comes from Paul's letter to the Romans:
13Did what is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, working death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.
14For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am of the flesh, sold into slavery under sin. 15I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. 16Now if I do what I do not want, I agree that the law is good. 17But in fact it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. 18For I know that nothing good dwells within me, that is, in my flesh. I can will what is right, but I cannot do it. 19For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do. 20Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I that do it, but sin that dwells within me. 21So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. 22For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, 23but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. 24Wretched man that I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with my mind I am a slave to the law of God, but with my flesh I am a slave to the law of sin. Romans 7:13-25

Opportunity to help those in need in Guatemala
July Item:
Acetaminophen, Excedrin, Aspirin, Ibuprofen
Kelly Saylor, Lisa Saylor and Sherry Newton will be going to Guatemala in a few months on a medical mission trip. They have a long list of things that they would like to gather for their trip. Each month, we will ask you to bring a few of these items and place them in a basket near the door to the Sanctuary. |

Wednesday, July 22nd - Six Flags, Atlanta, GA
Meeting Time: 6:00 am at the Church Parking Lot
Return: Approximately 11:00 pm (Park closes at 8 pm Alabama time. Youth will call home when arrive at church.)
Cost: $30 for admission plus money for 3 meals and snacks
What to bring: Friends, money, signed parental consent form
Thursday, July 23rd - Pool Party and Opening Program
Time: 3:00 pm- 5:00 pm (youth may meet at church parking lot at 2:50 pm to get a ride)
High School Party Location: Home of Gerry & Angie Meadows, Grant
Middle School Party Location: Home of Rod & Jan Eddleman, Grant
What to bring: Friends, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, signed parental consent form, girls bring snacks to share, boys bring drinks to share
Opening Program by Youth Caravan
Time: 6:00 pm- 8:30 pm
Activities: dinner, opening program by Youth Caravan
What to bring: Friends, bible, pen
Friday, July 24th - Lake Party and Lock-In
Meeting Time: 9:45 am at the Church Parking Lot (or meet us at Chandler's Lake Home at 10 am)
Party Time: 10:00 am - 8:30 pm
Return: Approximately 9:00 pm (Youth will call parents from the church.)
Party Location: Lake home of Scott Chandler, Honeycomb, AL
Cost: $5 for boat/jet ski gas, 12-pack of canned drinks
What to bring: Friends, swimsuit, towel, sunscreen, bug spray, dry clothes, signed parental consent form
Activities: Swimming, boating, water skiing, tubing, jet skiing, program by Youth Caravan, food & fun - (You MUST have a boating license to drive a jet ski...it's the law!)
Lock-In
Time: 9:00 pm- 8:00 am
Location: Church Fellowship Hall
Cost: snack to share
What to bring: Friends, sleeping bag, pillow, toothbrush, bible, pen, money, signed parental consent form
Activities: walking scavenger hunt, program by Youth Caravan, movies at the church, FUN
Saturday, July 25th - Closing Program by Youth Caravan
Time: 5:00 pm- 7:30 pm
Activities: dinner, closing program by Youth Caravan

VBS 2009--Crocodile Dock!
A huge thanks to Greta Ayers and all the wonderful adult and youth workers who made VBS a great success. We averaged 73 children each day along with 18 adults and 17 youth who assisted! |
