Babies
Greetings!

Remember, we have Bible study for ALL ages tonight at 6:30. Adults will meet at 6:30 in the "long room" of the Old House.  Susan Sibley will be teaching --see article below for more details!
Also-don't forget our Spaghetti Fund Raiser for Summer Camp at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall!

Craig and I are in (no so) Sunny California this week for a bit of vacation before I go to my Conference Secretary training this weekend.  In my absence you will be blessed with the leadership of the Rev. Dale Cohen in worship.

Dale Cohen is the Director of Connectional Ministries for the North Alabama Conference of The United Methodist Church.  He received his undergraduate degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1983 and a Masters degree from Emory University's Candler School of Theology in 1986.  Dale was ordained an elder in the United Methodist Church in 1988 and has served several appointments in the North Alabama Conference including six years as an associate pastor at Trinity UMC in Homewood.  In 1992, he founded Discovery United Methodist Church in Hoover. Discovery grew to a worshiping congregation of more than 500 people with many of those people coming into the church on profession of faith.  Discovery also gave significantly to missions.  He is married to Ann and they have three children in their blended family.  Dale is also currently assisting New Life as our Natural Church Development Coach.

Come this Sunday and reflect with Dale on God's transforming grace!

Christian View of Sex for Middle School Youth and Their Parents

Mark you calendars for April 16-18 for this very important weekend!

The goals for this weekend are to help middle school youth, their parents and adult workers with youth to:
 1.   grow in their understanding of sex as an important part of the divine plan for human beings.
 2.  expand their knowledge of the physical and emotional facts about their sexuality and their sexual development through puberty, as the basis for developing positive attitudes.
 3.  discover and practice appropriate language and communication skills needed to talk meaningfully, both within the family circle and in other responsible settings, about sex, dating, love and marriage.
 4. explore their attitudes toward themselves, especially toward the sexual dimensions of their lives.
 5.  understand some of the range of possibilities of personal lifestyles and modes of relating to other people.
 6. explore some of the attitudes which govern their interactions with other persons who relate to them In various ways (i.e. Parents, Peers).
 7.  understand the meaning of the teenager's emergence from parental controls and his assuming responsibility for his own freedom.
 8.  examine the standards youth and adults choose as the guidelines for their lives, from among the many choices made available today by our culture
 9.  choose for themselves guidelines for sexual and interpersonal behavior which reflect the best ethical thinking of the Christian community.

PLAN ON JOINING US!

Nursery workers needed

There is still a great need for volunteers in the nursery.  Sunday, February 1, we were blessed to provide child care in both traditional and contemporary services.

This is a wonderful ministry that requires only 1 hour of your Sunday.  There are openings for traditional, Sunday school and contemporary.  Please search your calendar for 1 hour on Sunday that you could commit to children ages birth to 3 years old.

This nursery ministry is needed for parents, grandparents and our church growth.  Please help by contacting Regina Filmore at rfilmore@mitchellgrocery.com, cell 572-8991, home 728-8877, or in person at church.

Matthew 19:14
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."

SUMMER CAMP, SUMMER CAMP, WHO IS GOING TO SUMMER CAMP!!!!!

Mark your calendar for Wednesday, February 18 at 6 p.m. and make plans to join us for supper, spaghetti supper that is!  We will have a spaghetti dinner sponsored by kids who will be attending summer camp this year at Sumatanga.   So if you have a child about to enter kindergarten or who may even be in high school or any age in between, all ages are eligible to attend summer camp and it is a blast!
The cost this year for campers to attend is $275,  for a week of fun, excitement and exploring God's Word and growing in a relationship with Him!  Not to mention all the friends you make!

Day campers (Pre-K thru 3rd grade) is $100 and Mom-n-Me is $90 so you can see there is quite an expense.  If you would like to participate in any of the upcoming fundraisers to help offset the cost of tuition, or if you have questions or need further information,  please see Paula Wright or Greta Ayers ASAP to find out what you can do!!!

The cost of the spaghetti dinner is $5 for adults (age 12 and up) and $3 (ages 11 and under).  All donations are GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Adult Bible Study this Wednesday, February 18:

This week's Wednesday night adult Bible Study will follow up on the recent sermon series about discovering and answering our call.
As we begin to search for answers to the question, "What is My Place in the Universe?" we will make use of these Bible passages:

Exodus 33:18-Moses boldly tells God, "Now show me your glory."
Exodus 34:29 tells us what God's glory looked like on Moses...and what it might look like on us!
Ephesians 1:11 and Ephesians 1:18-23 point us toward our place in the Universe...and remind us that "it's not about me."
Psalm 46:10-many of you know that this is my favorite Bible verse, even though it often proves to be a challenge for me:  "Be still and know that I am God..."
2Corinthians 3:18 promises that we will be transformed by our glorious God-if we will only allow ourselves to be.

Max Lucado:  "When our deepest desire is not the things of God, or a favor from God, but God himself, we cross a threshold.  Less self-focus, more God-focus.  Less about me, more about him."

Join us at 6:30 for adult Bible Study this Wednesday night!
'Looking forward to seeing you there!

ASH WEDNESDAY SERVICE
6:30 P.M.  Wednesday Feb. 25

Come and join us as we begin preparing our hearts and lives to celebrate Easter as we come together to reflect on our need for salvation.  The Water's Edge Praise team will lead our music and we will hear testimonies from some of our congregation about their experience of Jesus Christ.  This service will be a wonderful mix of old and new as we receive the traditional mark of ashes to remind us of our need for repentence and our common humanity while reflecting on the Psalms through the use of the Blues!  Be sure and join us as we prepare our hearts for the season to come!

"Words and music did for me what solid, even rigorous, religious argument could never do -- they introduced me to God, not belief in God, more an experiential sense of GOD. Over art, literature, girls, my mates, the way in to my spirit was a combination of words and music. As a result, the Book of Psalms always felt open to me and led me to the poetry of Ecclesiastes, the Song of Solomon, the book of John...My religion could not be fiction, but it had to transcend facts. It could be mystical, but not mythical. " Bono
WHAT A SUCCESS!!

The Valentine's dinner and auction was a huge success.  Everyone who attended had a great time, the food was delicious, and the auction was a bunch of fun.  A special thanks to all the folks who helped set up and donated items for the auction, as well as the chefs of the fabulous meal!

The youth; Savannah, Leigh, Georgia, Daniel, Levi , Logan, Kirsten, William and Wyatt, served and babysat, and had a great time.  They also made tips that will go into the youth fund!

Thanks again for another successful fundraiser!!  We are all blessed.
PRAYER FOR BLESSING FRIENDS

Gracious God, I ask your blessing on all my friends who have given of their own heart and soul to deepen and strengthen my own. I pray especially for those who have walked alongside me when I have not been a faithful friend myself. When I feel alone, remind me that my friends are one your greatest gifts of grace to me. Let me be to them what they are to me. I ask this for the sake of your love. Amen.
