Greetings!
As we enter approach the second Sunday of Advent, we continue to hear words of hope from the prophet Isaiah. These beautiful words would be repeated again as Mark begins to tell the good news of Jesus Christ with the story of John the Baptist and Jesus' baptism in the Jordan River.
40Comfort, O comfort my people, says your God. 2Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and cry to her that she has served her term, that her penalty is paid, that she has received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins. 3A voice cries out: "In the wilderness prepare the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4Every valley shall be lifted up, and every mountain and hill be made low; the uneven ground shall become level, and the rough places a plain. 5Then the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." 6A voice says, "Cry out!" And I said, "What shall I cry?" All people are grass, their constancy is like the flower of the field. 7The grass withers, the flower fades, when the breath of the Lord blows upon it; surely the people are grass. 8The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever. 9Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, do not fear; say to the cities of Judah, "Here is your God!" 10See, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. 11He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep. (Isaiah 40:1-11)
- Someone once said the only thing permanent in this word is change. As those who live in the midst of an increasing changing world, what comfort do you get from knowing that "word of our God will stand forever."
- The prophet declares that the Lord is coming with a mighty arm and then immediately follows with a description of those mighty arms feeding the flock, carrying them like a parent and leading like a mother sheep. What does it mean to you to think of God as both mighty and gentle? What images or experiences from your own life reflect an experience of something and someone both powerful and gentle?
- The voice commands someone to prepare a way for the Lord in the wilderness. For those of us who find ourselves wandering in the wilderness as we struggle with the many challenges of life, how can we prepare a way for God in the midst of the dry and barren areas of our lives?

Christmas Stars are on the Christmas Trees at both banks here in Grant.
Each Christmas Star has a wish list attached to it for a child in need tis Christmas. For some of these children, this is mostly all they will recieve for Christmas this year. The average spendature is between $100.00 and $150.00 per child. Leave gifts un-wrapped and place them in a large bag with their star attached to it. These bags should be returned to the church no later than Friday, December 19. |

CHRISTMAS PARADE
FLOAT HELP:
We need CREATIVITY!! We need HELP!!! We need YOU!!!
The Grant Christmas Parade time has been CHANGED. The parade will now begin at 1:00p.m. and line-up is at the school at 12:00. So anyone who is willing to help decorate the float please be at the church Saturday morning at 9:00a.m. If we have enough people show up it should not take very long and we can get the float to the school on time. IMPORTANT: All kids are invited and encouraged to ride on the float, especially if they are in the Christmas play. They will need to wear the costume they will be wearing in the Joyland Christmas play. For any kids/youth who are not in the play and still want to ride on the float or walk along side of it and hand out candy just wear something warm and Christmas-y and be at the school baseball parking lot at 12:00 noon on Saturday. If possible kids will need to bring candy to hand out. The parade route is approximately 2 miles so we will need A LOT of candy! For anyone wishing to donate candy that would be greatly appreciated! If you have any questions please give me a call 728-2347 or email cgayers@nehp.net Thanks for your help, Greta

2009 CONFIRMATION CLASS
Each year, an opportunity is given for our young people to spend some time studying what it means to be a follower of Christ and a member of Christ's body, the Church. At the end of this special time of studying, questioning, and exploring, youth are given the opportunity to make a profession or reaffirmation of their faith. Classes will begin in early February and those in the Confirmation Class who choose to affirm their faith will be received into membership of the Church on Pentecost Sunday, May 31st. If you would like your youth ( ages 10 and up) to be involved in this class, please let me know so I can begin planning. If you have questions about confirmation and what it means, please feel free to e-mail me and you can also learn more here.
Please begin to keep our 2009 Confirmation Class in your prayers.

| YOUTH PROGRESSIVE CHRISTMAS DINNER will be December 14 beginning at 530PM!!
The youth are planning their annual Progressive Christmas dinner. The Senior high and Junior high will have separate parties and therefore each group will need approximately 3 homes to host part of the progressive dinner. If anyone is interested in hosting one of these groups please call Virginia Robinson 728-8852 or the Church Office 728-2093.

Weekly Prayer
Gracious God, there's so much waiting in my life. I wait in lines, I wait for a better job, I wait for others, I wait for financial security, I wait for a doctor's report, I wait for love, I wait for pain to abate, and I even wait for death. Sometimes the waiting erodes my joy and fills me with dread. Help me find waiting to be the friend that invites me into the spaciousness of stillness. Give me the grace to refrain from rushing ahead in order to bring waiting to an end. Instead, let me find joy in the waiting itself. I ask this for the sake of your love. Amen. |
