Greetings!
Throughout the month of November we will be celebrating the many blessings God has showered upon us and taking time to thank God, through our time, our presence, our gifts, our service and our witness. Last week, we gave thanks for those saints whose witness to the faith have pointed us toward God. This week will celebrate the ministry of the laity in our congregation!
When I went on my Emmaus Walk (#88) as a young mother of three preparing to quit work and stay home with them, I left Sumatanga with a question burning in my heart: If by baptism we are all called to some sort of ministry, what ministry was I called to do? In the process of discerning my call, I was involved in all sorts of ministry in my local church. And while my call was to ordained ministry, I assure you that the call to ministry within the local congregation and within the local commmunity is not a lesser call! So this week, we will celebrate the ministry that each of you do in our congregation and our world.
The scripture for this week is Micah 6:8
He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?
- How do we live this out in our daily lives?
- How is God calling you to do justice and love kindness?
Our Lay Leader, Charlie Ayers, will bring the message this week on how God is calling us to change our world.
I look forward to seeing you there!

Thanksgiving Food Baskets
We are rapidly approaching Thanksgiving. Our food box is empty. The box needs to get filled by Wednesday November 19th. The baskets will be given out on Saturday November 22nd. This way the families will have Thanksgiving dinner. The Grant Cub Scouts will hold there annual food drive on the 15th, which goes towards these baskets, but that alone is not enough. If you know of a family that needs a basket, please let us know. We will also take monetary donations and I will go buy the food for you. So, get with me if you want to donate money and let me know what I can count on. Janie Franks

Change in Time for Children's Program Practice
6 - 7 p.m. Sunday, November 9th
Due to the Charge Conference on Sunday afternoon at Trinity in Huntsville, the children will practice for the Christmas program from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the Sanctuary. |
Update Upholstery Project The Board of Trustees would like to thank everyone who has helped with the project thus far. If you haven't yet, we invite you to look in the Sanctuary and see the newly upholstered pews. They look wonderful. WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP! Thus far, we have purchased all of the fabric needed and recovered 14 pews. Currently, we need an additional $650 to complete the project. Please prayerfully consider donating toward this request. You can place a check in the offering plate marked for the pew project. If you would like to donate in honor or memory of someone, please contact Jean Cobb at 728-3004. |
Thank you also for a successful Fall Festival!
Thanks to everyone who provided a pot of chili, helped with a game, or simply showed up to great the children! Our first annual Fall Festival was hosted by the congregation and the Christian Academy as a gift to the community. We had a large number of children and families attend. We are looking forward to next year's festival which will probably be held in early October. Thank you once again!

| Thank you for a successful Trunk or Treat!
A great time was had by all who attended our annual Trunk or Treat at New Life this year. There was really no way to count but it seemed to me and a lot of others that there was a record number of "trick or treaters" this year and we are so excited about that. We had a total of 12 trunks participating this year and a huge thanks goes out to all who donated extra candy, that was a lifesaver (no pun intended!!) A lot of us ran out of candy and having some extra on hand kept things going! Keeping with tradition we had secret judges who went around and chose what they thought was the best decorated trunk. Congratulations to our winners! First place went to the trunk "Be a Star for Jesus" with the karaoke singers. They were very entertaining and did a great job! They won dinner and a movie ($30 gift card to Porky's and a $10 gift card to Tan-n-Go Video). Second place was captured by our Disney Friends: Goofy, Daisy, Cinderella and Minnie Mouse! They even brought their castle! It was great! They won a $25 gas card to SanAnn. Congratulations again to our winners! There were many creative trunks and costumes again this year and I especially want to thank everyone who participated. We had a great time and it would not have been possible without your support! The kids collected tons of candy and had a great time too! Lots of other pictures will be posted in the church so you can get a glimpse of all the fun! Always Praising Him, Greta Ayers |
| Prayer Team Ministry
One of the most important things we do as a congregation is pray for each other, for our church and for our nation! In the coming year, New Life will be identifying its God-given vision and putting plans in place to live that out that vision. We need people who are dedicated to praying for our congregation and its needs. While everyone's prayers are important, we are looking for people who are willing to make a commitment to pray for our weekly prayer requests, to write notes of encouragement to those who need them, and to help us celebrate answered prayers. If you would be interested in helping with this very important ministry, please reply to this newsletter and let me know.
Thank you!

Prayer after an election
God of all nations, Father of the human family, we give you thanks for the freedom we exercise and the many blessings of democracy we enjoy in these United States of America. We ask for your protection and guidance for all who devote themselves to the common good, working for justice and peace at home and around the world. We lift up all our duly elected leaders and public servants, those who will serve us as president, as legislators and judges, those in the military and law enforcement. Heal us from our differences and unite us, O Lord, with a common purpose, dedication, and commitment to achieve liberty and justice in the years ahead for all people, and especially those who are most vulnerable in our midst. Amen.
(Cardinal Adam Maida, Archbishop of Detroit)
