NAPO-DFW's April Roundtable a Success!

Samantha Naeyaert
 NAPO-DFW Vice President
Samantha Naeyaert, Vice President
La Hacienda literally translates from Spanish to English as The Property and during our 2nd Annual NAPO Member's Roundtable event the property became the home-away-from-home for our local NAPO and NAPO-DFW members! We had over 40 attendees and everyone went home with a goody bag, some new organizing and small business tips, a full tummy, and a smile on their face!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the event. Because of our lack of shyness we all shared our questions, answers, frustrations, and successes. It is this kind of openness that makes NAPO and the NAPO-DFW chapter such a unique industry. Although we end up competing in the market, we all understand that by helping each other, we help the community.

This year the event was held at La Hacienda Ranch Restaurant in Dallas, organized by Sandy Jones, Director of Professional Development and Programs, and the evening started with a buffet dinner and individual introductions. Then the festivities kicked off with the Board of Directors handing out goody bags filled with well . . . goodies for all! Thank you to Christine Shanklin, Past President, for putting together over 40 bags! We then announced many of our 2009 achievements, raffled about 10 organizing gifts, including past NAPO Convention CDs and organizing books, then got into the meat of the evening with Michelle Earney, Director of Communications and Technology, guiding the conversation with our question and answer portion of the evening. Lots of pens hit lots of paper taking note of shared information!

After the roundtable discussion, more raffle give-aways were shared and the Free Year Membership was won by Rachel Stockton! Congrats! Samantha Naeyaert, Vice-President standing in for President, Trish Lengen, announced the newly elected board members for next term, while thanking those who are leaving for their service and commitment to the board. Our new Secretary will be Cherie Ware (Welcome Cherie!) and we even had the then-open Professional Development position excitedly filled by Courtney Milburn with a high and forceful hand in the air! Thank you Courtney, we look forward to your participation on the board!

Thank you to everyone who attended and participated. We look forward to the NAPO Member's Roundtable in 2011!

May's "Organizing for a Living"

Sandy Jones NAPO-DFW Professional Development 2009-2010
Sandy Jones
A special "thank you" goes out to our May panel members (Trish Lengen, Pam Bowers, and Pam Rackley) for our Organizing for a Living chapter event. We had a great discussion for over 20 new organizers and existing members. It's always a rewarding evening when our chapter members can share our lessons learned and encourage each other as current and future small business owners!

It has been a pleasure serving on the NAPO-DFW Board during 2009-2010 and I wish the incoming Director, Courtney Milburn all the best with this position! It's a fun group of people to serve alongside and I encourage all of you to volunteer in any way you can with this great chapter!
News from the NAPO Conference!

Cherie Ware
 NAPO-DFW Secretary
Cherie Ware
Columbus, Ohio was my 2nd national NAPO Conference. I was fortunate to attend last year in Orlando just as I was beginning to explore professional organizing as a career option. What I heard in Florida was enough to convince me I was on the right path, but I also suffered from information overload. The timing for this year's conference was just right. I'm 6 months into my new company and had very specific questions about how to build my business. For example, the keynote presentation by Gina Schreck on Connecting via Technology gave me much greater clarity on the tools of social media and how I should be employing these to build relationships with clients and prospects. And the conference workshop entitled "Go From Hourly Pricing to Package Pricing Fearlessly" with Elizabeth Hagen has inspired me to completely revise my pricing strategy. It's been a few weeks since returning from Ohio and I'm still working through the To Do list that I made myself from all the new ideas acquired at conference. I highly recommend the experience to everyone. See you in San Diego!

The NAPO-DFW Board will meet later this month for our annual strategy and goal setting meeting. As vital members of our chapter, I'd like to personally encourage you to let us know what you've liked (or would like to see) from us as a Board and from our chapter. We'll use your feedback to help map out our goals for this upcoming year.

Soon, you will receive a survey email asking for your feedback on how well NAPO-DFW served you and the local organizing community during the 2009-2010 membership year. We'd also like to know what you want to see happen this new year in 2010-2011!

Please consider:
- What do you find most rewarding about membership in our chapter?
- What are your expectations as a member?
- How could we improve for next year?
- Do you most enjoy our chapter meetings that social/networking or educational?
- What topics would you like to see covered at future meetings?
- What topics did you like best this past year?
- What could we do to get you more involved in the chapter?
It has truly been an honor to serve as your President this past year and I look forward to another great year for our chapter! Look for the survey next week!
