March 2010
WE DID IT! GO Month's Extreme Garage Makeover was a HUGE SUCCESS!

NAPO-DFW teamed with Easysale, Inc. to host a "Messiest Garage" contest for GO Month 2010!  Months of preparation led up to the 2-day event where, despite freezing rain, 22 professional organizers and 10 sponsors united to organize 1 garage, 1 shed, and 1 driveway that had been overtaken with "stuff."
Sponsors 1-800-Got-Junk hauled away 3 truckloads, Easysale submitted items on eBay (valued at approximately $3,000), SAM contributed two portable storage units, Sherwin Williams of Rockwall donated paint and supplies, and Starbucks contributed hot beverages.  Both SAM and 1-800-Got Junk donated manpower as well!
We kicked off the contest with an interview of Trish Lengen, (President, NAPO-DFW) and David Goldstein (Easysale) on Good Morning Texas, coverage in a local newspaper, live video streaming during the event, live news coverage by Fox News, video news coverage by News Without the Blues, Rockwall Blog, a 5-station radio interview of Pam Bowers (Marketing Director, NAPO-DFW) and David Goldstein, and The Garage Slab Magazine's next issue is devoting 2-pages to the project!

Shortly after the contest's completion, we checked back with the Cory family. Mr. Cory is
excited about the garage and is doing a little something everyday to keep making it even better. He was able to put a bike on a workstand and work on it for easysale! Goal accomplished! As Mrs. Cory says, this was "unheard of in the garage for who knows how long. Thanks so much for all NAPO-DFW did. It's very nice to be able to go in there and get something I need and know exactly where to get it!"

NAPO-DFW is thrilled with the success of this event. We look forward to more opportunities to help local families and promote the value of professional organizers in DFW!

March "Martial Arts" Meeting!
NAPO-DFW
presents
"A Night of Self-Defense!"

Join us for this FUN meeting where we will learn self-defense tips and have a chance to practice them! As professional organizers, we greatly rely on our instinct and intuition when entering a new client's home. But, we should all be prepared with basic moves (or brush up our existing skills) in case we ever find ourselves in a dangerous situation.
We are teaming with Jim Dryburgh of PowerKenpo and Steve De La Garza of Kitchens Alive to co-host an introductory Martial Arts Class on self defense. Wear normal street clothes as you will be part of the action!

April's NAPO Roundtable Meeting Returns!

Treasurer's Update
As we start winding down the NAPO-DFW 2009-2010 fiscal year, we have maintained our budget goals and have a couple of new achievements. Our special projects budget has been moved to an interest earning account and we now have a rewards debit card; small but important steps for our non-profit!
Moving forward we are excited to be able to offer PayPal as a convenience to our members to pay for their 2010-2011 membership. We continue to investigate income streams for our chapter and coming soon to our website will be an an associate program with Amazon. Stay tuned!

Best Kept Secret in Plano, Texas!

Mission Possible Kids, a.k.a, MPKids, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Plano, TX. They are dedicated to empowering kids to change the world by helping others. MPKids has set up chapters of elementary aged children across the U.S. and gives them hands-on opportunities to make a difference in the world by helping the hungry, the homeless, and the hurting.

Their goal is to develop the next generation of leaders, volunteers and philanthropists with an expanded worldview and an attitude of compassion and belief in their abilities to make a difference; all while giving aid to hundreds of other charities and thousands of people in need. Together over the last few years their kids have helped over 350,000 people worldwide!

MPKids is a rapidly growing organization, having doubled in size every year since their inception. With that being said, funding to support that growth is very tight.

As organizers, we can help! MPKids is currently looking for a few items:

-Used cell phones and accessories (any type or age)
-PC laptop Windows XP or newer or Mac laptop with OS X. 10.0 or newer
If you come across any of these items that your clients no longer need while organizing, please bring them to the March and April NAPO-DFW meeting and Christine Shanklink (Past President, NAPO-DFW) will collect them.
As a chapter, we will be able to help MPKids make a difference in the world!!!  If you have any questions please contact Christine at [email protected].
