Board Report
SCRAP Sunday is big news for our board. We have been working hard "behind the scenes" to recruit potential board members, site volunteers and donors. Michael and Ann Singer are spearheading the effort to engage more stakeholders on the board and expand the SCRAP community. Fundraising is our number one responsibility as a board and this is our first effort to build a donor base for the organization. SCRAP Sunday is about "friendraising", the most important step in creating a giving relationship. It's been fun planning this event and I look forward to seeing you on August 26.

Greetings!

August at SCRAP is jam packed with fun this year!

As the new school year starts, SCRAP would like to thank all the teachers and educators in our community. To that end, we're hosting our Hats Off to Teachers party and give-away this Saturday, Aug 11th. We're hosting another awesome Scrappy Sunday on August 26th: live music by Nothin' But Fun, a food cart, hands on crafts with our workshop artists Monica, Dorothy and Susan, with great warehouse deals. I hope you can make it.

And we have great workshops and outreach events this month: Garden Mosaics - create 3D mosaics with SCRAP artist Jane Schafgans, Drop in Jewelry making with Susan Solstice, Craft Night Nightlife at the Cal Academy, and crafting at the Bayview Operahouse BMAGIC Backpack give-away.

Oct 6th - Day of the Dead Ofrendas

presented by Aiko Lanier Cuneo

Day of the Dead is a time to celebrate and honor loved ones  who have passed. Families in Mexico build altars in their homes, filled with offerings for their spirits who they believe come back to visit on November 1st and 2nd. In this workshop, participants are shown how to make an ofrenda in memory of someone they love who has died. After writing a short paragraph of memories about a loved one, they will create a dimensional altar using boxes and paper pop-up techniques. Bring in items and/or search the shelves at SCRAP for materials to create miniature offerings that represent food, drink, and favorite things once enjoyed by the person being remembered.
