SCRAP Board Report
| I HEART SCRAP! Sunday is February 12 . . . . Join us for a heart felt fundraiser with music, food, and fun crafts just in time for Valentines Day! Bring your sweetie, family, and friends out to support SCRAP. Your financial support helps bring supplies to schools, divert waste, and promote creative reuse.
It's exciting to see SCRAP grow and change. The warehouse is busy, the staff is amazing, and the board is dedicated to sustaining the momentum. Point your browser to the board bios on our web site for an introduction to the directors who give their time to SCRAP. We are gearing up for a day of strategic planning, May elections, and projects with our community partners. Special thanks to the Haas Board Fellows, Full Circle Fund and Pivot Nonprofit Consulting for joining our team.
It takes a village and SCRAP thrives on building community. Thanks for all your support. Looking forward to seeing you on February 12 at the I HEART SCRAP! Sunday.

Greetings!
If you love SCRAP, you'll love all the things we have planned for you this February. This Sunday, we are hosting our I Heart SCRAP! party and fundraiser, complete with the "Nothin' But Fun band, the "Banh Mi Love you Long Time" food cart, live art creation and sale, hands on activities, and a whole new display of nice vintage and specialty items on sale. The party will be Sunday February 12th from 1pm to 4pm and we will be collecting donations at the door on a sliding scale. Hope to see you there! Even though February is a short month, the fine folk who coordinate SCRAP's programs were able to squeeze three amazing workshops in: Reddy Lieb's Recycled Glass & Collage, Dorothy Yuki's Star Books, and Project Accessorize with emiko oye and Shana Astrachan. I can't wait to see all the amazing art that comes out of these workshops. If you haven't been to one of Susan Solstice's Drop-In Jewelry Making workshops, you should make some time to check it out. For a small donation, Susan can give you personalized hints on how to create beautiful accessories out of SCRAP materials or treasures you have always wanted to incorporate into your outfit. There's no sign up necessary, just show up at SCRAP's workshop area Mondays between noon and 2pm. Have you forgotten about your New Years resolution to volunteer more? Never fear, come to SCRAP's Fabric Rolling Team meeting! We constantly have a large pile of fabric that needs sorting, organizing, and rolling so that we can put them out in nice neat stacks in our fabric cubbies. Please come to SCRAP Tuesday afternoons from noon to 5pm to help us roll fabric. Volunteers get first dibs on the nice fabric that come through SCRAP's doors. SCRAP is also planning on attending several community outreach events this month. We just went to Sunnyside Elementary's craft night and Yelp's party last week and have the Larkspur Farmer's Market(Feb 11 & 25) and Open Make day at the Exploratorium (Feb 18) planned. Also, if you are the parent or teacher of a San Francisco 2nd or 3rd grade class, we have some funding for field trips. Please contact me if you are interested. Our February Teacher Give-Away was a great hit, with over 60 teachers attending, but we always have materials for more. Please tell all your favorite SF teachers about our Teacher Give-Aways (the next one is March 3rd from 1pm to 4pm) Scrappily yours, Shuai Chen Interim Executive Director of SCRAP schen@scrap-sf.org www.scrap-sf.org p (415) 647-1746 f (415) 647-1744 801 Toland St (Entrance on Newcomb) |

Star Books w/ Dorothy Yuki Join our favorite SCRAPper Dorothy Yuki as she teaches three versions of the wonderful star book. She will show participants how to make a simple glued version, a hand-sewn version with a hard cover, and a photo book version. Dorothy will have samples, one of which was in the annual Bookworks show by Pacific Center for the Book Arts members at the San Francisco Public Library. Participants will have an opportunity to collect materials from SCRAP to use in their star books and will leave with three completed books. About Dorothy A past manufacturer and a design and production consultant for the fashion industries, Dorothy's path has been one of an adventure through graphic arts, real estate development, fashion designing and crafting in the US, Europe, South America and Mexico. She is a member of the Friends of Calligraphy and Pacific Center for the Book Arts in San Francisco. Project Accessorize w/ emiko oye & Shana Astrachan
Saturday, February 25th
10am to 4pm fee: $60
Fearless alt craft duo, emiko oye and Shana Astrachan of Accessorize with Toys are back once again with another specially designed project for SCRAP's jewelry fans: PROJECT ACCESSORIZE. Taking cues from the reality series, Project Runway and Project Accessory, in this full-day workshop participants will design, "shop" for materials, and create a one-of-a-kind, personalized art jewelry piece using techniques presented in class. Participants are asked to bring with them a personal treasure from home that is the inspiration point to be the central object of focus for their jewelry. Shana and emiko will guide individuals through the creative process to "Make it Work", sharing techniques for working with alternative materials and local resources. Included in this all-day workshop will be an artist presentation on their work, Q&A session, and group critique/brainstorming session to inspire making beyond the classroom.
About emiko & Shana emiko oye and Shana Astrachan are professional jewelry artists working with alternative/repurposed materials, encouraging others to experience the beauty of making and reuse. Longstanding members of the Metal Arts Guild Society of North American Goldsmiths, and the Metal Art Critique Collective, their jewelry can be found in museums, galleries, and publications. Their work was recently published in Metalsmith Magazine's Exhibition in Print issue. Accessorize with Toys workshops have served countless, enthusiastic makers-to-be since 2006, at venues such as MakerFaire, Renegade Craft Fair, and California Academy of Sciences NightLife.
