Greetings!
I want to wish you a Happy Earth Day. It occurs to me that every day is Earth Day. I want to reiterate what an honor it was last month to have SCRAP's founder, Anne Marie Theilen, recognized by KQED as part of Women's History Month. To read Anne Marie's biography on KQED click here and to watch the video spot made about Anne Marie and SCRAP click here.
If you need a quick creative fix, check out this month's workshops - Fun Summer Bags with Amy Lee Serradell on April 16th and Books with Content with CJ Grossman on April 30th (details below). Looking ahead to next month we will have Accessorize with Toys (with a twist) with emiko oye and Shana Astrachan on May 7th. SCRAP will be at the Earth Day Festival in Cupertino on April 9th and at Dia de los Ninos Dia de los Libros at the Main Library on April 24th.
Remember - be kind to our Mother - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and have FUN.

Fun Summer Bags w/ Amy Lee Serradell
Saturday, April 16th, 10am - 4pm fee: $45
(note this is a full-day workshop)
|

Amy Serradell is back to follow up her delightfully successful Small Purses workshop to present this versatile and fun summer purse just in time for Spring! In this workshop participants will utilize basic sewing skills to create a fun, fully lined, fabric bag with bamboo handles.
Participants will begin by selecting
fabrics either from the shelves of SCRAP or from a personal stash brought with them to class. Then they will choose from a selection of fabulous bamboo handles that were donated to SCRAP several months back (some of which Amy has painted to really show them off!). Amy has designed a pattern that can be sized up or down and will demonstrate how to do this, as well as teach other modifications that can be done to really make the purse a unique creation. Each participant will leave with a completed individualized bag and if there is time cut out and prep a second.
Fabric and purse handles are provided. (**If you do not have a sewing machine of your own that you can bring please let us know. SCRAP has a limited number available and may be able to provide one for your use during the workshop).

| Books with Content w/ C.J. Grossman April 30th, 10am-4pm fee: $45 (note this is a full-day workshop) |
It's great to make books -- but did you ever get stumped because you didn't know what to put in them??
This workshop is designed specifically to address content in books. Join us in welcoming back cj grossman as she leads this surprising and fun stretch of our imaginations. Participants will explore at least 10 ways to get started on content and create several different books. Some from single sheets, as well as unusual pamphlets, and a slightly thicker book to make a journal or sketchbook. This is a fun, fast-moving class that will generate a lot of inspiration to make books at home or in the classroom.
A little about cj -
cj teaches book arts as well as mixed media collage and assemblage to adults and children. She has taught thousands of children how to make books, and also teachers educators and parents how to make books with kids. CJ lives in Berkeley with some real people and her imaginary yellow labrador named "Magic" whose name changes every week... You can find out more at http://www.artjazzbooks.com.

Accessorize with Toys - PROJECT ADORN-NECK
w/ emiko oye and Shana Astrachan
May 7, 1-4pm fee: $25
|
Fearless alt craft duo, emiko oye and Shana Astrachan of Accessorize with Toys are back with a specially designed project for SCRAP's jewelry fans: PROJECT ADORN-NECK. Taking cues from the reality series, Project Runway, participants will have 3 hours to design, "shop" for materials, and create a one-of-a-kind, personalized art neckpiece using techniques presented in class. Participants are asked to bring with them a personal treasure from home that is the inspiration point and be the central object of focus for their neckpiece. Shana and emiko will guide individuals through the creative process to "Make it Work!"
About emiko & Shana -
emiko oye and Shana Astrachan are professional jewelry artists working with alternative/repurposed materials, encouraging others to experience the beauty of making and reuse. Longstanding members of the Metal Arts Guild Society of North American Goldsmiths, and the Metal Art Critique Collective, their jewelry can be found in museums, galleries, and publications. Their work was recently published in Metalsmith Magazine's Exhibition in Print issue. Accessorize with Toys workshops have served countless, enthusiastic makers-to-be since 2006, at venues such as MakerFaire, Renegade Craft Fair, and California Academy of Sciences NightLife.
