Greetings!

We are very excited and honored to announce that our founder, Anne Marie Theilen, is being recognized this month as a Local Hero as part of KQED's celebration of Women's History Month. Anne Marie founded SCRAP over 30 years ago in order to provide arts supplies for San Francisco teachers and to ensure that the arts remain an important part of a child's education.

Holding true to this mission, if you are a teacher in need of supplies don't miss SCRAP's monthly Materials Giveaway for Teachers this Saturday, March 5th, from 10 am - 4 pm.

Also, we have some great workshops for March and April coming up;  Knitting for Total Beginners, with Suzanne Raynard on March 19th, and two full-day workshops, Fun Summer Bags with Amy Lee Serradell on April 16th, and Books with Content with cj grossman on Saturday, April 30th.

And, if you have some time to catch a movie this weekend, the San Francisco Green Film Festival is being held through March 6th at the Embarcadero Theater. For more more information go to  http://sfgreenfilmfest.org.

Finally, SFAI City Studio has started up again this semester with a sculpture class for middle and high school students held at SCRAP on Wednesday afternoons 3:30-5:30.  For more information contact program director JD Beltran at citystudio@sfai.edu citystudio@sfai.edu or call 415.351.3530

There will be time to practice, ask questions, and go over some common errors beginning knitters typically make.

Yarn and knitting needles will be provided. Needles are available for purchase for those who get hooked! Please feel free to bring your own supplies if you like.

A little about Susanne -

Fun Summer Bags w/ Amy Lee Serradell

Saturday, April 16th, 10am - 4pm   fee: $45

(note this is a full-day workshop)

SCRAP Amy Lee Serradell Summer Bag

Everyone loves a cute summer

purse, and you can never have too many! Amy Serradell is back to follow up her delightfully successful Small Purses workshop to present this versatile and fun summer purse just in time for Spring!

In this workshop participants will utilize basic sewing skills to create a fun, fully lined, fabric bag with bamboo handles. SCRAP is an excellent resource for fabrics and participants will begin by selecting fabrics either from the shelves of SCRAP or from a personal stash brought with them to class. Next is to choose from a selection of fabulous bamboo handles that were donated to SCRAP several months back, some of which Amy has painted to really show them off!

The pattern that Amy has designed can be sized up or down to suit the individual.  She will demonstrate how to do this, as well as other modifications that can be done to really make the purse a unique creation. Each participant will leave with a completed individualized bag and possibly cut out and prep a second.

Participants need to bring their own sewing machine. Fabric and purse handles are provided. (**If you do not have a sewing machine of your own that you can bring please let us know.  SCRAP has a limited number available and may be able to provide one for your use during the workshop).

Books with Content w/ C.J. Grossman
April 30th, 10am-4pm  fee: $45

(note this is a full-day workshop)

It's great to make books --  cj grossman content

 cj grossman Return to Passion

but did you ever get stumped   because you didn't know what to put in them?

This workshop is designed specifically to address content in books.  Join us in welcoming back cj grossman as she leads this surprising and fun stretch of our imaginations.  Participants will explore at least 10 ways to get

started on content and create several different books.  Some from single sheets, as well as unusual pamphlets, and a slightly thicker book to make a journal or sketchbook.  This is a fun, fast-moving class that will generate a lot of inspiration to make books at home or in the classroom.

A little about cj -

cj teaches book arts as well as mixed media collage and assemblage to adults and children.  She has taught thousands of children how to make books, and also teachers educators and parents how to make books with kids.
