Greetings!

It's looking very festive at SCRAP.  All the Christmas-related materials have come out of storage and are displayed by the Front Desk.  Remember you can also give the Gift of SCRAP! Gift certificates are always available at the Front Desk.

This month we have the second Materials Giveaway for San Francisco schoolteachers on December 4th from 1 pm - 4 pm.  On December 11th join us for our CD Gift Books workshop with Nadine Browning.  These books incorporate a modified piano hinge and would make a great gift.  In January, Reddy Lieb will present a full-day workshop on Recycled Glass & Collage.

I just want to take a moment to mention a blog I found recently with a great referral list for creative reuse centers -

http://cosaverde.com/blog/2010/jun/14/centers-creative-reuse-directory-state-and-country/.  Their information for SCRAP needs to be corrected but otherwise it is a great resource.

If you have not had a chance to see the "Recycled, Reinvented" show at the Gallery at Ruth's Table (Bethany Center, 580 Capp Street), you still have time.  The show will be up until January 5th.

Now, more than ever, SCRAP needs your help.  Please consider making a year-end tax-deductible donation to SCRAP to keep us going strong in the new year.

Have a great holiday season and see you in the new year.

Warm regards,

Kenan

CD Gift Books Workshop
with Nadine Browning

December 11th, 1-4pm  fee: $20

BrowningCDBook

In this workshop participants will use CDs to construct a small book with a modified piano hinge spine that can be used as a journal, notebook, mini photo album, or unique artist's book.  Nadine will lead the class step-by-step through the process of cutting, gluing, folding, sewing, and then assembling the components of the book. Participants will leave with a unique book that can be decorated or filled with personal artwork, small images or text. This project is a satisfying and fun way to turn mundane objects into unique works of art that make perfect gifts!

Recycled Glass & Collage Workshop
with Reddy Lieb

January 15th, 10:00am-4:00pm  fee: $45

Join us in this workshop as glass Reddy Liebartist Reddy Lieb shows participants how to create decorative and expressive glass panels, jewelry, or small sculptures using recycled glass, collage, and stained glass techniques.  Participants will scrounge through the treasures of scrap to find decorative papers, metal, images, glass pieces, etc that they will use in making mixed media collage works. The collaged works will then be sandwiched between glass and framed in copper foil.  Reddy will instruct students in basic glass cutting and preparation techniques as well as instruct them on how to solder their final piece.
