Greetings!

I just attended the exciting first national reuse conference, Reuse ConEx, in Raleigh, NC where I had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with the directors of SCRAP in Portland, OR, Materials for the Arts in NY and the Scrap Exchange in Durham, NC, as well as numerous other start-up creative reuse centers across the country.  It is really exciting to see the importance being attached to reuse and the desire to expand the offerings in creative reuse in communities around the United States.

On the home front we have our first monthly Materials Give-Away for San Francisco teachers on November 6th.  Catherine Theilen-Burke will demonstrate bookmaking projects and SCRAP will have the materials for recreating the project in the classroom.  We also have a great new workshop, Scrap Wrap, with Megumi Inouye and Monica Lee to give you ideas for creative gift wrapping with what you may already have on-hand or can find easily at SCRAP.

I also wanted to take a moment to thank Ruth Oprean Cardillo.  who created the newsletter.  We will continue to build on her vision to create community.  As always, I hope you will take a moment to let me know what you think of our evolving look.

Finally, the Giants ROCK!  It has been such a thrill to watch them go to the World Series and WIN.

Warm regards,

Kenan

CD Gift Books Workshop
with Nadine Browning

December 11th, 1-4pm  fee: $20

BrowningCDBook

In this workshop participants will use CDs to construct a small book with a modified piano hinge spine that can be used as a journal, notebook, mini photo album, or unique artist's book.  Nadine will lead the class step-by-step through the process of cutting, gluing, folding, sewing, and then assembling the components of the book. Participants will leave with a unique book that can be decorated or filled with personal artwork, small images or text. This project is a satisfying and fun way to turn mundane objects into unique works of art that make perfect gifts!
