Upcoming Exhibit:

HybridLAND

Sara Parkel

MFA in Book Arts

Sara Parkel  The artwork featured in this exhibition revolves around ecological and sustainable themes, brining into question our culture's manipuation of plants through genetic modification and our interaction

with the environment. Using a collage-like interplay of vibrant colors and layering of images, the artist creates a visual dichotomy to the interwoven text, which expresses the darker implications crop modification has in our lives.

T.J. Ferguson
Technical Support Assistant, Ferguson Center
Hometown: Roanoke, Alabama
Major: Criminal Justice with a minor in German
Favorite Color: Black

How fitting that one of The Ferg's most vital student staff bears the same name as our beloved student union.  With a possible relation to Hill Ferguson (his grandfather is from the same town), T.J. has found a home at The Ferg.  T.J.'s mentor, Alston Pike, showed him the ropes, opening the door to his career at The Ferg.  Now, in his third year with the Tech Staff, T.J. is a certified expert when it comes to technical support.

"I love how The Ferg is directed toward the college mindset and really great about working with your schedule," T.J. said.  "The work environment is relaxed and comfortable, but there's still plenty of structure.  It's a great place to develop responsibility and a strong work ethic.  I honestly don't have anything negative to say about The Ferg... In general, I'm a fan."

In addition to his work at The Ferg, T.J. serves as president of the German Club, an interest instilled in him by his German grandmother.  He is also an active member of the Student Alumni Association (SAA) and appreciates the many community service opportunities it provides him.  Last year, he leveraged his expertise with SAA in his technical director role.  In addition, T.J. has received countless recognitions for his academic achievements and is currently a member of Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies.

A fully self-sustaining student, T.J. works hard for his education and shows one of the best work ethics around.  He will be graduating in May 2012 and hopes to complete a Master's degree in criminal justice at Alabama before going on to law school.  He currently looks forward to interning in the field this summer.

"The Ferg has helped me to mature in so many ways," T.J. said.  "The Ferg has taught me promptness, work ethic and interpersonal communication skills.  My position with the Tech Staff has helped me be able to explain things to people in a way that they can understand, which will greatly help me with my career in criminal justice, where I will be explaining mandates, statutes and laws to clients in a way that allows them to easily understand the business-law terminology.

When T.J.'s not at The Ferg, you can find him playing pick-up soccer with friends or watching his favorite show, Supernatural.
