A Note From the Director - Carl Bacon
Welcome back! The summer months have seen many changes at the Ferguson Center. The Ferg is getting a new look both physically and operationally. The Source Annex on the 3rd floor is a new, innovative space open for use by all student organizations. To create this space we knocked down walls and created a more open area that is supportive of student organizations' collaborative needs. The Ferg also has the distinguished honor of housing the new and improved Student Affairs Hall of Fame, which is also located on the 3rd floor of the Ferg.

Operationally, we have developed several new initiatives and programs. 2E, which stands for 'Enrichment Experience,' is  the Ferg's new, transformative learning initiative geared towards our student staff. The aim of this program is to develop the whole student, not just a set of skills based on their position within the Ferg. In addition, we have collaborated with the Restaurant, Hotel and Meetings Management Program to create RHM-385, a uniquely designed class that merges theory with practice by offering students a hands-on experience as they learn.

And don't forget about the 'Rising Tide Student Tailgate' on the Quad, which we developed collaboratively with Health Promotion and Wellness. This program continues to be a game day favorite. Don't miss out on the next student tailgate on Oct. 2 before the Alabama vs. Florida game.

See you at the Ferg!

Carl Bacon

Faces of the Ferg
Diana Merchan
Event Assistant, Ferguson Center Student Union
Hometown: Bogota, Colombia
Major: International Marketing, specializing in Global Business

From Bogota to Tuscaloosa, Diana brings her international background to the Ferg. An aspiring global marketer, Diana says her interest in international marketing stems from her cross-continental upbringing and a strong desire to travel the world.

Along with organizing and scheduling events at the Ferg, Diana also works for UA's Athletics Media Relations. Both positions allow Diana the opportunity to develop career-propelling skills while attaining her degree at UA.

A recipient of the Elton B. Stephens Scholarship in Creative Selling and Sales Management, Diana is a member of the Sales & Marketing Association (SMA) and the American Marketing Association (AMA). In addition, she has been active in UA's French Club and currently volunteers her time as part of St. Francis' Search Team.

"My favorite thing about working here is working with students, being able to communicate with everyone here, being able to know all of the organizations and being able to help them out," Diana said. "Customer service is a big part of marketing.  It's something that I will take away from this experience and use in the future."
