 A Note from the Director

Instead of merely recreating ineffective events, Unions should lead in the creation of original programming that meets the specific needs of their campus communities. Encouraging continual student, staff, and faculty contact within and without their institutions. The University of Alabama's Division of Student Affairs communicates high expectations for student development.

Our Union is critical in institutionally supporting collaboration among Student Affairs and Academic Affairs concerning programming and building sustainable long term relationships. We must encourage active lifelong learning of students and professional staff when constructing our programs. This must be accomplished while respecting diverse talents and ways of learning.
Jon Chappell Faces of the Ferg
Jonathan Chappell - Director's Assistant
Hometown: Birmingham, Ala.
Major/Minor: Political Science/Public Relations

Jonathan has worked in the Ferg since September 2008. He started out as a Conference Coordinator and moved into his current position as a Director's Assistant this semester. Jon says his favorite things about working at the Ferg are the relationships with his coworkers and bosses. He says, "The Ferg is a great place to work because there is always something going on and no shortage of excitement." When asked what he has learned while working at the Ferg, Jon said, "The best and most valuable lessons I've learned from working here are lessons in time management. I have to balance classwork, my job, and outside projects all at the same time, and working at the Ferg has helped me stay focused and on top of everything going on around me."

His memoir is the subject of an award-winning documentary film that will be showing at the Ferguson Center Theater Sunday, February 7th at 7PM.

There will also be a book discussion on Monday, February 8th at 3:30PM in the Ferguson Center Game Room. The first 20 students to sign up will receive a FREE book. Sign ups are located in the University Programs office on the bottom floor of the Ferg.
