A Note from the Director

What is the 'Union' Philosophy?
Is it thinking clearly and logically about deep questions? Is there original thought? Who am I? What is a human being? What should I do? Is free choice legitimately an option? What is truth and/or knowledge? What is the meaning of my life?

We may not be able to help you with any of these deep philosophical questions. However, at the heart of our Union's philosophy, we offer opportunities for self discovery. Our Discovery Classes' invitation to "Come discover your ...talent...hobby ... passion" is far more than a simple catchphrase; it's centric to our philosophy.

Although many don't realize it, philosophy- including Union philosophy- has great practical value, including as preparation for one of the professions.

Day of Silence
Founded in 1996, the Day of Silence was created to draw attention to the discrimination against LGBTQ students and their allies. On this day, participants take a vow of silence to call attention to the silencing of people who are harassed because of their sexuality, gender expression, or gender identity.

The Breaking the Silence event will be held at 5 pm in the Ferguson Center Lounge on April 17. The event will feature Vickie Saltsman, sister of Billy Jack Gaither, and will commemorate the ten-year anniversary of his murder.
