A Note from the Director
College unions are not labor unions and are not just campus center facilities. From their roots as debating societies in England, college unions have since evolved into inclusive programs offering a comprehensive plan for the community life of the institution.

Barrett Sullivan Faces of The Ferg
Barrett Sullivan - President, University Programs
Year: Senior
Major/Minor: Finance, Economics/Computing Technology
Extra-curricular activities: Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Senior Advisor; Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., President; Blackburn Institute, Fellow; Member, Student Leaders Council; Member, NAACP; Volunteer, Salvation Army of West Alabama; Volunteer, Oakdale Primary School

Barrett began as Director of Issues and Ideas for UP in February of 2007, and became President in January of 2008.

Barrett says, "The best part about working with University Programs is the ability to work with so many diverse aspects of campus life. I've helped plan, organize, and facilitate events with almost 20 different student organizations on campus, and this experience has enabled me to gain insight from various perspectives. In my position, I have the ability to give back to students by providing quality programs that enhance the college experience and build our sense of community. I have learned and developed many leadership skills during my tenure with UP. Fortunately, I've worked with a great team of people, and I am constantly learning how to effectively pool individual talents to produce a quality collaborative effort. In the future, I hope to utilize these skills in conjunction with my background in Finance to successfully lead a company. Also, due to recent budget cuts in state educational funding, our organization has been challenged more than ever use creative means to attract and impact the maximum number of students. I believe that this challenge has brought out the best in our Board; and I know that we all will be able to use this real life experience in our careers."
