Tax Appeals
Once the homeowners receive their tax bills, the most frequently asked question is, "am I to late to appeal my taxes".  The answer to that is basically yes, the appeals should have been filed with the Board of Review 30 days from the date the assessment rolls were published. The current tax year brought more then 17,000 appeals to the Board of Review.  That being said, it's extremely important that you pay close attention to your total exemptions on the bill; these exemptions could lower the current tax bill. For a complete list of exemptions, view  Property Tax Relief.
Payment Options
Payment options again include payment via U.S. Mail, in person at most Lake County Banks and at the Lake County Treasurer's Office, 18 N. County Street, Room 102, Waukegan. Customers paying in person must bring the original or a copy of the tax bill (available online) with them at the time of payment.
Online Payments
Taxpayers may make payments online by credit card or E-check at lakecountyil.gov/Treasurer/payments/OnlinePayments.htm.  There is a convenience fee charged by the processing company for those paying online.
Partial Payments
Partial payments will again be accepted once the bills have been released in the mail, with the understanding that after each of the due dates, the remaining balances could be subject to additional penalty.  All payments must be received and posted by 5:00 pm on November 23rd to avoid the annual tax sale.
