Greetings!
If there is one thing we can all count on, it is change; it is a constant. For organizations like Port, there are a lot of reasons that change occurs; programs grow and shrink, needs change and so programs must adapt, revenue changes, State regulations and requirements change, and naturally over time, organizations evolve into something more than they were.
Today, Port is in the midst of a sizable infrastructure change. In order to stabilize our residential programs in light of on-going State funding cuts, we realized we had to do business differently. We are currently in the process of restructuring our residential model from strictly a shift-staff model to a long term staff model. Not only does this afford us better resource efficiency, it also creates the possibility for even stronger, more effective programming. The outcome of this change is definitely a win-win scenario, but not without some pain. The process of changing can be very hard. It takes a lot of personal strength for our staff to put their personal feelings about change aside to do what is best for the organization and those we support. To say that I am proud of the work this team is doing to get Port Resources successfully through this transition, would be an enormous understatement. It is often times like this when you get the chance to see the true character of people- and I am very inspired by the collective efforts of all of our staff; they have stepped up to the challenge and they are doing an amazing job supporting their teams, teammates and those we support.
Every employee makes a commitment and that in turn provides Port Resources the ability to carry out its mission. Kevin Meggison, who you will learn more about later in this newsletter, is one example of the level of commitment our staff demonstrate. In spite of any changes we face- the team keeps its eye on the prize. So although change can be hard, it can also bring new and exciting opportunities, we look forward to seeing what opportunities we will have in the coming year.
