Submit a written description or a photo of "where you read" to our Facebook page to be entered into prize drawings. Names will be drawn Friday mornings in October and posted to our Facebook page.

The Rapid City Public Library and the High Plains Writers present an evening of poetry readings in the solarium on the main floor of the downtown library.

Poets
Sign up to present your work and share your talent. Pre-register online or sign up the evening of the event. Poets are asked to bring their poems to share with the audience and fellow writers.

Kids! Earn Free Tickets to the play,

"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow"! 

headless horsemanticketsStarting September 26-October 20. We're inviting kids to read to earn free tickets! The theme is read something scary! Halloween, ghosts, vampires zombies - you pick! Kids 12 and under are asked to read 4 books. Kids 13 and older will be asked to read two books.

Those who read the required number of books for their age group will receive a FREE ticket to the play! Performances are scheduled for October 21, 22 & 23 at the Journey Museum. During each performance of the play attendees can sign up for a chance to win a book donated by the Rapid City Public Library. There will be four winners from each age group that will be drawn on October 24th.

There are 30 free tickets available that will be given away to the first 30 children or teens to turn in the required reading entry forms. Pick up your reading entry form at either library. Then start reading! Once you have read the required number of books for your age group, turn them all in together to the Youth Services area at the downtown library at 610 Quincy St. where tickets will be available for pick up.

Volunteers of America helps almost 2 million people in 400 communities, including Rapid City. Morgan Von Haden, the Marketing and Development Director for the Dakota Western Regional Outreach Office and the Americorp Vista Director for the Dakotas will discuss the focus of the organization . 

  

Lunch is provided by the Friends of the Library. If you wish to have a lunch, please call (605-394-4171) or register online by noon on Monday, October 17.

Bill Keck, retired Pennington County Extension Agent Horticulturalist will present tips and guidelines for preparing your lawn and garden for the winter weather.

Punch cards are back! Starting in October, every time your child attends any of our Story Times or a Discovery Day program they get a punch - ten punches they will receive a book. All turned-in punch cards will get put into a prize drawing in May.

The Rapid City Public Library has served the Rapid City area since 1879 and now offers two library locations.  Both offer print and electronic resources for adults, young adults and children as well as computers and internet access and a variety of programs and events.  In early 2008, USA Today selected the Rapid City Public Library downtown as one of the nations 10 greatest places to "Find a Nook and Read a Book."
