 Putnam and Bristow Live @ the Library
The Library is excited to present a special holiday Lunch and Learn program on Wednesday, December 15 at noon. Musicians Kenny Putnam and Boyd Bristow will perform original, acoustic fiddle and guitar songs along with popular traditional music.
Putnam, a well-known fiddler and two-time South Dakota Fiddle Champ, began touring and recording with The Red Willow Band in 1975. He was invited by the Smithsonian Institution in 1975 and 1976 to participate in The Festival of American Folk life, demonstrating violin-making and playing. Putnam toured and recorded with Roy Clark for over seven years appearing on The Grand Ol' Opry, The Tonight Show, Hee Haw regularly and many other programs. He has played on stages in 48 states, Canada, Bulgaria and Russia, including the JFK Center for the Performing Arts, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas and the Oktober Hall in Leningrad. Putnam has performed with A South Dakota Acoustic Christmas for all of its 12 years.
Singer/songwriter Boyd Bristow is a long-time member of A South Dakota Acoustic Christmas. He is a veteran musician that has played with Blueberry Buckle, The Red Willow Band and Vince Two Eagles in Europe. Besides being a star instrumentalist, Boyd is a terrific singer and responsible for the recording and production on many CD recordings. He has a new CD recording called Cloudless Sky on the Maxine Records label.
The program will be held upstairs in the youth services area of the downtown library. There is no charge to attend and all are welcome. Those who would like lunch should register by noon on Monday, December 13 by calling 394-4171 or click here to register online. Lunch is limited to the first 50 people to register. You may attend without a lunch reservation. Refreshments will be available for all attendees. Lunch and refreshments are sponsored by the Friends of the Library. |
2011 Legislative Session - Updates, Contacts & More
Just in time for the 2011 Legislative Session, the Black Hills Knowledge Network has launched a page dedicated to keeping citizens up-to-date on what is happening in the state capitol. The page provides a central gateway where citizens of the Black Hills can find information on and links to local representatives, television and radio coverage, 2011 Session Calendar, and bills sponsored or co-sponsored by local senators and representatives. Information is presented in a manner that accommodates ease of research and reflects local need. Click here to access this page now.

Library Offers New Event & Room Registration System Starting December 1, community members who reserve meeting rooms will find a new online system. The new system allows users to easily see what events are already scheduled in library meeting and study rooms and what times are available. By simply clicking on the date, users can select open times to schedule an event and continue on to enter their event information. This service is available by clicking "Meeting Rooms" from the Service Directory drop-down menu located on the library's homepage. Try it today.
In addition, patrons who attend library events that require registration such as Lunch and Learn and Poets Coffeehouse will be able to reserve their spot online and receive an email confirmation. This can be done by clicking the "Events Calendar" link on the library's homepage. A calendar showing upcoming events at the library will display. Patrons can register for any event that is underlined by clicking on the event, filling in their contact information, and clicking "Complete Registration." Try it today.

The Library uses Flickr to share its photos of events, services and promotions. Photos are tagged so you can easily search by keywords. The Rapid City Public Library has served the Rapid City area since 1879 and now offers two library locations. Both offer print and electronic resources for adults, young adults and children as well as computers and internet access and a variety of programs and events. In early 2008, USA Today selected the Rapid City Public Library downtown as one of the nations 10 great places to "Find a Nook and Read a Book."
