The library is planning another busy month full of activities for patrons in October. From a fiddling poet to a costume party and even a used book sale, you are sure to find something that interests you! Here are just a few of the events happening over the next month. Alaska's Fiddling Poet
Performance and Workshop
Thursday, Oct. 1Ken Waldman the Fiddling Poet
6:30 to 8 p.m.
RCPL Downtown
 
At 6:30 p.m. - Come to the library for Ken's interactive performance of fiddle music, storytelling and poetry for all ages.

At 7 p.m. - Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to stay for a poetry writing workshop.

Attendees will receive a free poem!

This is the first of three appearances for Ken in the Black Hills. He will be at the S.D. Festival of Books in Deadwood on Friday and Saturday and at The Dahl Saturday night.

Native American Crafts
In celebration of American Indian Day, Johnny One Feather will be at both libraries  to teach young people how to create Native American crafts including porcupine quill earrings and leather bracelets.

Humane Society of the Black Hills

Staff from the Humane Society of the Black Hills and a few of their furry friends will be at both libraries to talk about pet ownership, their various programs and volunteering.

The Friends of the Library Fall Book Sale is near! Meeting Room
B at the downtown library will be over flowing with books, audio books and videos all priced to sell. You will also be able to buy a Friends of the Library canvas book bag to take all your purchases home in.Book Sale

Celebrate Teen Read Week at a Beyond Reality Costume Party. Teens, dress as your favorite book or movie character and come to the library for food, fun, gaming and a chance to win prizes. Prizes for best costumes include an MP3 player, $50 Borders gift card and a $25 Borders gift card.

Chuck Mickel from the S.D. Wild Grassland Coalition will discuss the local and national issues involving S.D.'s grasslands. Lunch is sponsored by the Friends of the Library. If you would like a lunch provided, please RSVP no later than noon on Monday, Oct. 19 by calling 394-4171.

The Rapid City Public Library has served the Rapid City area since 1879 and now offers two library locations.  Both offer print and electronic resources for adults, young adults and children as well as computers and internet access and a variety of programs and events.  In early 2008, USA Today selected the Rapid City Public Library downtown as one of the nations 10 great places to "Find a Nook and Read a Book."
