Relief in Chile: Emergency Giving Opportunity |
Dear JCF Fund Advisors,
As you know, the fifth strongest earthquake in 100 years ravaged the central and southern areas of Chile this weekend. The 8.8 magnitude earthquake on Saturday killed more than 700 people and the death toll is expected to rise. Shortages of drinking water and food have worsened the effects of the disaster, while power cuts slowed relief efforts and threatened economic output. We wanted to communicate a giving opportunity providing immediate relief to those in need in Chile.
American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee International Development Program (nonsectarian)The world's largest Jewish humanitarian organization, JDC is partnering with nonprofits on the ground in Chile to provide immediate services and working with its network of disaster relief organizations as well as the Chilean Jewish community to assess longer term needs. All relief is provided on a nonsectarian basis.
In San Diego, funds are being collected through the United Jewish Federation (UJF) and will be distributed to the JDC to provide immediate aid and relief to victims.
If you would like to recommend a grant from a donor advised fund or family foundation to the UJF for JDC rescue efforts, or any other organization providing relief in Chile, please feel free to do so by return e-mail or through our online Donor Central system.
As always, thank you very much for your partnership with the Jewish Community Foundation. It's truly an honor to assist you with your giving. Please don't hesitate to call on us at any time.
Best wishes,
Charlene Seidle
