Relief in Haiti: Emergency Giving Opportunities

Dear JCF Fund Advisors,

The devastating earthquake in Haiti has left thousands of people dead with the death toll continuing to rise. Schools, hospitals and thousands of homes have been destroyed and more than three million people have been left without adequate food, shelter, healthcare and basic infrastructure.

Several nonprofit organizations are providing services in Haiti. We wanted to quickly communicate two such giving opportunities.
  • American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee International Development Program (nonsectarian)
The world's largest Jewish humanitarian organization, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) also operates nonsectarian projects through its International Development Program. JDC and its partners are already on the ground in Haiti providing relief and planning for longer-term assistance to help the Haitian people rebuild their lives. JDC is conducting and full and rapid assessment of the situation on the ground and working closely with other disaster relief teams to effectively provide services.

In San Diego, funds are being collected through the United Jewish Federation and will be distributed to the JDC to provide immediate aid and relief to victims.

  • American Jewish World Service
American Jewish World Service (AJWS) is an international development organization motivated by Judaism's imperative to pursue justice. AJWS is dedicated to alleviating poverty, hunger and disease among the people of the developing world regardless of race, religion or nationality-in the name of the Jewish community. AJWS works in scores of developing countries partnering with community-based non-governmental organizations to provide critical services. Having worked in Haiti since 1999, AJWS is partnering with its existing grantees to immediately deliver services and determine gaps in need.
If you would like to recommend a grant from a donor advised fund or family foundation to the JDC, AJWS or any other organization providing relief in Haiti, please feel free to do so by return e-mail or through our online Donor Central system.

As always, thank you very much for your partnership with the Jewish Community Foundation. It's truly an honor to assist you with your giving. Please don't hesitate to call on us at any time.

 Best wishes,

 Charlene Seidle
