The study, which involved 22 firms in a variety of industries and ranging in size from 2,500 to more than 360,000 employees, found several common practices among successful organizations:

They have a clear talent strategy and put recruitment and talent management techniques to good use in poor economic times as well as in good times. These firms typically seek "the right fit" when hiring, not just filling the available position.
"Top companies make talent management a strategic business priority regardless of economic pressures."
