NACD/Wasatch Peak Academy School Model Program
Wasatch Peak Academy is a public charter school in North Salt Lake, Utah. At the request of the principal and special education teacher, the National Association for Child Development (NACD) created a school model program for Wasatch Peak Academy, intended to increase the overall developmental and academic function of identified special education students.
It was a pleasure working with Andrea and the staff at Wasatch Peak Academy. We especially enjoyed working with the students and parents. Their dedication to help their children succeed was unprecedented.

NACD CHAPTERS IMPROVING LIVES AND IMPACTING COMMUNITIES
NACD works with some of the best families in the world. When these families get together to change how their communities view children with delays, they can make a resounding difference. How does this work? It works best when NACD parents join forces with other NACD parents within a geographic area to effect change.
Each quarter as NACD evaluators travel to various branches, they are able to meet with families to discuss new approaches and changes within NACD, as well as discuss ways in which families can have an impact on their communities. Most ideas in this regard actually come from the parents who know their communities the best. The meetings serve as an opportunity to share ideas and build networks among the families. They also serve as an opportunity to allow parents considering NACD and interested professionals, such as teachers and therapists, learn more about us.

NACD ANNUAL RENDEZVOUS 2009
Once again our annual Rendezvous in Ogden Valley was a great success, and fun was had by all! Thanks to all the families who took the time to come out to the mountains of Utah and join us. We enjoyed having a chance to get to know you and your beautiful children in a more personal way. And a tremendous thanks to Jennifer and all the staff for all your efforts to put the Rendezvous together, make it happen, and clean up afterward.
The unexpected rainstorm and unexpected sprinklers on our meeting site didn't dampen anyone's spirits. Some highlights of the weekend included great discussion groups, boating on the lake with Bob (he only dumped one family off the tube this year---sorry, Cameron!), s'mores around the campfire, smiles from little Mika Leinweber, and a great Jimmy Buffet rendition from Adrianna's dad at the barbeque.
If you were one of the ones who attended, we hope you experienced a great time of fun and renewal. If you were not able to join us this year, be sure to make a note of the date for next year's Rendezvous: June 24-28, 2010

NOTICE TO NACD FAMILIESSince there was a little bit of confusion after the previous newsletter, we wanted to clarify: You will still have re-visit evaluations! The only change has been made in the occurrence of program reviews (these are the videos in between evaluation visits). Program reviews will occur after an initial evaluation, but not after revisit evaluations. We still want to have tons of contact with you between evals. We have found that with all of our follow-up phone calls to you and your calls to us, the program reviews after revisit evaluations just aren't necessary. If you have any questions about this, please let us know.HELP NEEDEDAn NACD family in Northern Ireland is looking for an individual to live with them for a year and implement program with their son. This is not a "nanny" position---it is for implementing program! The family will provide a room with a private entrance, board, a modest salary, and a trip or two home to the US. The individual will be required to work normal working hours. If you are interested in this position, please e-mail Lori lori@nacd.org or Ellen ellen@nacd.org, and we will put you in contact with this family.

MY SPORTS CHALLENGE! HEY PARENTS! For all of you who want a Wii sports game for your kids or family but find it to be either too expensive or too difficult, this may be the answer! There is a wireless sports game system similar to Wii, but less expensive and much easier to use, called My Sports Challenge. It is small, connects easily to your TV, and runs off batteries. It has golf, bowling, tennis, baseball and boxing. It can be played with 1 or 2 players.
The controllers (which look like the Wii controllers) do not have the button on the bottom that need to be used simultaneously with the top button like on the Wii. This makes it much easier for our children (and some of us adults) to play. It has just one button and an arm swing back action. The graphics are great! Our families have been able to purchase them from Amazon for around $21.00. Check it out for some total family fun or some great independent fun for your children.
HAVE FUN!!!
