Parish Registry
We have created a Family Registry form, containing a place to record sacramental information for every member of a household, as well as helpful contact information. We ask all of our parishioners to fill one out by any of several methods - they are available at the welcome table in the church, or you can download a form at this link, complete it online or print and complete by hand. Completed forms can be e-mailed to Bob DeHaven at [email protected] or you may leave it with Manny, Pat, Bob DeHaven or anyone on the Bishop's Committee.

Thank you for your help in creating this record of our community and ministry!

Ready, Set, Go!

It's a quiet, Sunday night, well into the evening and I'm savoring the closing ceremonies of the London Olympics. What a spectacle: a tribute to British music and culture. This event is making quite the impression on me. Then again, I suspect there are millions of others viewers having much the same feelings. All those people; the sounds, sites and euphoria, it leaves my senses swirling and my spirit soaring. While I'm sitting here in the upper Midwest, several thousand miles away, I can only imagine what the atmosphere must be like there in that stadium?   Electric? Probably. I'm happy for all those people and perhaps a wee, bit envious, too. I'm proud of how well the American athletes performed; garnering more metals than any other country. And, I'm duly proud of England, particularly London for a 'jolly good job' in hosting a most spectacular and safe, Olympic experience.

While all this pageantry is going on, (mind you, I'm writing my notes as I'm watching TV) I have also been thinking about today's experiences at St. Nicholas. The Liturgy was lively and all the activity afterwards, well, were exhilarating and moving. I'm not simply talking about the "moving" of furniture. I'm talking about the movement of the Spirit...the energy generated by the community in preparing for the rummage sale and, perhaps more importantly, the Spirit that moved within, around and in all of us! Certainly, a much smaller venue St. Nicholas is compared to the Olympic Stadium, but there was a palpable and real energy that made me, once again, so very proud of this amazing place. The community of St. Nicholas never ceases to humble me and my love for this community, my sisters and brothers, just continues to blossom and grow. Thank you, one and all for the cultivating and nurturing of this love and for sharing so much of yourselves.

With all this said, I'm confident that this year's version of St. Nick's Knacks Annual Rummage Sale will once again, be a success. The economic impact of a successful sale is pragmatically vital. However, what is much more important is the enhancing, strengthening, nurturing and continued development of our community of faith. When we come together to pray, to watch a movie, to play a game or to sell stuff, we do so in the Spirit, responding to God's will and because it is our role in assisting in the building of the Kingdom of God. These events, whether secular or divine, spiritual or social, are part and parcel to what a community of faith engages in to grow stronger and deeper with one another and to our Creator and the Son. These events are our Olympics...let's go for the gold, shall we? Then again, silver or bronze is fine, too. Actually, we are already winners, aren't we? After all, we have one another and God is with us and this is all we truly need!

St. Nick's Knacks: A Rummage Sale

Rummage Sale Our Annual Rummage Sale will take place on Friday, August 17 and Saturday, August 18, from 9AM to 3PM both days.

This is our major fundraiser for the year, and we need all hands on deck to make it a success.  How can you help?  We need:

  • Everyone to spread the word.  Go to our Facebook page and "join" the event and share with your friends.
  • Everyone to bring in items to sell as late at Thursday, August, 16th.  We could use newspaper for wrapping items, too.
  • People to  let Manny know when they can spend an hour or two Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of the week of the sale to continue to organize and price.
  • Everyone to sign up to volunteer on the dates of the sale.  We simply can't have enough volunteers.  We  need cashiers for the main table and boutique room, floor walkers, greeters, baggers/wrappers. Click this link to sign up online.

Thank you, in advance!  The sale is a wonderful community-builder, and an opportunity to welcome people to St. Nicholas.  We guarantee you'll have fun!  Most importantly, the whole idea is that everyone participate, however that's possible for each person.

Bishop's Committee News
The Bishop's Committee met Sunday, August 12:
  • Approval was given to purchase the Workshop Cycles curriculum for use in the Children's Education program during this upcoming school year.
  • Discussion was held regarding
    • Preparation and advertising for the rummage sale;
    • The possibility of holding a healing service once a month;
    • Hiring a supply priest for those times when Fr. Manny is unable to preside at the worship service(s); and
    • Having evening/morning prayer on the fifth weekend of each month.
  • On Sunday, August 26th after the 10am Liturgy, Fr. Manny will be meeting with those who have expressed an interest in preaching to give them some guidance and set up a schedule for when they will preach.

Crafts / Games Night - August 31
On August 31st, Friday night, 6:30pm, we will have a Crafts and Games Night.  Bring your favorite craft to work on and perhaps teach others.  Bring your domino set to play "train."  Depending if we have enough material, we can make more Prayer Blankets.  Or, just bring along some munchies to share as we play, chit-chat and enjoy the company of one another.  Coffee and cookies will be available, and if you'd like bring along some pizza, that's fine, too.
