From the Search Committee:

For the past eleven months, our congregation has been in a Transition, following the resignation of Steve Martz as our Vicar. To some in the congregation, it may feel like this has been a long process. The reorganization that took place in our Diocesan Pastoral Center created a speed bump for our process in the summer, which we successfully overcame and moved forward.

With the instruction and guidance of our Diocesan Office of Transition Ministry, our congregation participated in the Church Assessment Tool (CAT) survey and small group discussions. On September 29, 2011 the Search Committee received a Directive from our Bishop's Committee to develop and create our Parish Profile. This profile is a requirement for every congregation engaged in the Search process for a Rector or Vicar, and is developed from the results of the CAT survey and the input the Search Committee receives from those members of our congregation that participate in the small groups.

On November 1, the Search Committee received its long awaited Directive to actually engage in a Search. Following the charge from the Bishop's Committee, the Search Committee concentrated our Search Process to our transition minister, Father Manny Borg, as the first candidate for discernment.

The Vicar Search Committee met for a number of sessions and during these meetings, we reviewed Fr. Manny's personal and professional background as found in his Office for Transition Ministry (OTM) Profile and his Professional Resume. Additionally we reviewed his written response to essay questions. We conducted two face-to-face interviews in order to obtain further details about his spiritual qualifications and his vision as a potential leader for our growing and changing congregation. All members of the Search Committee felt that the process given to us by the Diocese was very useful and we all gained a lot of insight about our candidate.

During our final session of discernment, the Search Committee unanimously voted to recommend to the Bishop's Committee to call Father Manny Borg as our next Vicar. We communicated this decision in a joint meeting of the Search Committee with the Bishop's Committee, together with Susan Czolgosz who is our diocesan guide in the process on January 17.

From the Bishop's Committee:

Manny at Pet BlessingUpon receiving the Search Committee's recommendation to call Fr. Manny as our next vicar, the Bishop's Committee gave their unanimous acceptance. On January 18, I prepared the Letter of Agreement between the Bishop's Committee and The Reverend Manuel Borg; Manny and I signed the Agreement; and I forwarded it to Bishop Lee and The Rev. Jim Steen (Director of Ministry) for their approval and signature. I received word this last Wednesday (January 25) that they had approved the Agreement and our selection and we could go ahead and announce at our services on January 28/29 that Fr. Manny is now our new vicar.

I want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this process. I, in particular, want to thank the Search Committee members - Hal Stratton, Katie Black, Denise Butera, Cyndi DeBock, Benny Delgado, Jon Kessler, and Tess Setchell - for all of their time, discernment, prayers and thoughtfulness. I know that this took a good deal of hard work and time on their parts and they have proven to be a great committee. I have asked Ginny to link the Parish Profile that they so beautifully completed to our website so that the "world" can see what a great and wonderful place St. Nicholas is. So congratulations to Manny and to all of us. We already know we're a great match.
