Reflection from Manny
Well, there's nothing like starting the new year with a little unexpected and unwanted repair work. You may not have noticed or perhaps you were unable to be with us last weekend, but the large, yellow bucket in the middle of the entrance was not meant to be a new design feature. Alas, we have sprung a leak. Yes, Houston, we have a problem! We put the plant stand in front of the bucket to sort of 'hide' things a bit. Didn't fool too many, that's for sure. As for the problem itself, it will take more than a large, yellow bucket or a flower stand to repair. Fortunately, we have started the process for necessary repairs. The Bishop and Trustees Committee has been contacted as has the roofing company. Unfortunately, it's pretty tough to do much work with snow and ice still covering where the hole may be, not to mention the cold and wind that makes such repair work dangerous and difficult. Rest assured, this will be taken care of.
That's what we do, isn't it? If some thing goes wrong, we correct it. If some thing is broken, we repair it. This goes for our homes and it also applies to our church--this, our spiritual home. Of course, finances are always a concern. Warranties and contracts are being checked and doubled-checked. Time is what will be needed...and some good weather, too.
This roof issue is not going to set us back in our efforts at becoming a stronger church. Nor will we allow this "drip-drop-drip-drop" to dampen our enthusiasm one bit. It's a set back that will be resolved, in time, and with nature's cooperation. In all our lives, a little rain will fall. Oh well, for us at St. Nicholas, it was a bit more rain than what we wanted and certainly not inside our building. You know, my friends, stuff happens. This is not the first time we've dealt with a building matter and it certainly will not be our last bit of drama. We're okay. Our building is okay and spring is only a mere three months away!

Chili Suppers: An Evening of Fun, Friends and Good Food!
Our 2nd Annual Chili Supper is fast approaching (February 18), we are asking for community members to bring tables and chairs to the church to ensure that we have enough for the number of people we are expecting to attend this event this year. If you are able to loan the church some tables and/or chairs we ask that you place your name on the bottom along with contacting Jessica Tamaski (tamaskij@dupage.edu or 630-607-2258).
Also if you have new items that you would like to donate for the use of door/raffle prizes please contact Jessica Tamaski (tamaskij@dupage.edu or (630)607-2258). If you would like to make a cash donation to help offset the costs of the Chili Supper please make checks payable to St. Nicholas and mark Chili Supper in the memo.
Thank you!
