Celebrating Women's History Month

Since 1987, our country has celebrated March as Women's History Month by honoring the women who have contributed to our rich history, culture and society.

United Way of Broward County pays tribute to the visionary women in our community, this month and all year long, who are making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

Women of the Tocqueville Society and the Women's Leadership Council continue to mobilize their efforts towards making Broward County an even better place to live, work and raise a family.

Women account for nearly 20 percent of

the nation's armed forces.

Military Care Packages

Women's Leadership Council

In November, United Way of Broward County's Women's Leadership Council sold care packages during the Magnolia Luncheon for U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

Women's Leadership Council members spent a day packaging the boxes which contained items such as teas, candy, soaps, and other personal products.

When distributing the packages amongst the group, one soldier replied, "The word that kept being said was 'unbelievable.' Our German coworkers were SHOCKED. They can't believe people back in the U.S., who have never met us, want to shower us with support."

Through United Way funding, Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies provided more than 100 cribs to Broward County parents and parents-to-be.

Neiman Marcus Event

A Beautiful Way to Give Back

Women of United Way's Tocqueville Society and Women's Leadership Council recently hosted a Beauty Event at Neiman Marcus in Fort Lauderdale. In the spirit of giving, attendees were invited to donate unused cosmetics and fragrances to United Way of Broward County for women's community initiatives.

Guests had the opportunity to sample new beauty products, enjoy refreshments and learn about this season's new styles while watching a fashion show.

Thanks to United Way donors, approximately 100 homeless and/or recovering substance-abusing women living at the Susan B. Anthony Recovery Center received job coaching support, placement and retention skills to help them provide for their families.
