June 2012                                                              Issue 1

Greetings!

I have tried to steal a few minutes of quiet time while here in Reno for the Vets2012 conference, but business, meetings, conversations and great workshops have made that impossible. I'm only complaining a little though, because I did get out for a walk on the river walk yesterday morning just after sunrise.

RENO
This is not a ghost town it was just early enough that most folks were up and about as you can see here.

Event take-aways: Those who show up and participate get access to people who can really help and are interested in helping. I look forward to the Veterans Conference in Detroit in the next few weeks because I know that it will be another chance to reach out and help those that want to accelerate their business growth!

Even though the government is reacting to the travel scandal by eliminating many travel events, there are still vendor-outreach sessions and other conferences where you will have the chance to meet face-to-face with your best prospect-but you have to show up the gain the benefits!!

If you do see me at any of the events you are attending, please do say hello, I would love to see you!

As always, here's to YOUR success!

Risk, Burden or Multi-Billion Dollar Reward

Last year, companies large and small located in Maryland were awarded more than $31,089,176,000 (yes, billion, says USASpending.gov) in federal prime contracts, with more than $2.5 billion in services/products contracts performed in Howard County (according to the Federal Procurement Data System).

Pursuing business in the federal market can be a relatively straightforward process, or it can be a convoluted maze of rules, regulations and paperwork. Businesspeople have a choice in which path to take; each has its own risks, burdens and rewards.

These choices generally align with one of these two strategies: being the prime contractor or being the subcontractor. Smart businesspeople will explore both strategies, and weigh each contract opportunity individually to determine which path has the least risk balanced with an acceptable reward.
