November 2011                                                              Issue 1

Greetings!

If you are reading this on Monday-- please consider doing this (see below) to tell your Senator what you want done. If you are reading this after Monday, you'll probably hear the news about the results.

What:

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote this afternoon on legislation to repeal the 3% tax withholding mandate.  WIPP urges you to make your voice heard and tell your Senators to support this repeal effort.  Please Click Here to send your repeal letter.

Slated to go into effect in 2013, the 3% withholding tax requires federal, state, and local governments with revenues over $100 million to withhold 3% of nearly all of their contract payments. Compliance with this law will impose significant, unnecessary financial burdens on both the public and private sectors, with a disproportionate impact on small businesses. The 3% is taken off the total value of the contract, not the profit, and create serious operating capital disruptions.

The House recently passed legislation, H.R. 674, to repeal the 3% tax withholding. This legislation is now up for a vote in the Senate.  Today we have an opportunity to make the repeal message heard.  WIPP joined with over 150 organizations to fight the 3% tax withholding requirement.  Please join the movement in calling for repeal.  Send a message to your Senators urging their support of this repeal bill.

Here's to your success (and 3% NOT withheld!)

Increasing Profitability in Uncertain Times

President/CEO, National Insurance Specialists

With more than 70,000 new companies registering with the Central Contractor Registration (CCR) in 2009, contractors are finding it more challenging than ever to stake their claim in the public sector.

The thought of increasing profitability seems contradictory in light of the continued negative economic news. An opportunity is created, however, by reviewing common practices of prevailing wage and Service Contract Act employers on public work contracts funded by the Federal government. A review of labor costing, as part of the initial bidding process and contracts in progress, can help you win key contracts and return dollars to your bottom line.
