September 2011                                                               Issue 2

Greetings!

September 30 wraps up one of the most frustrating federal fiscal years in memory, at least from a contracting standpoint. While it will be a lucrative year for many contractors (and we are happy for that!), for others the stalled budgets, never-ending continuing resolutions, and congressional grandstanding took a heavy toll and continues to cost us revenues and jobs.

I run a business, just like you, and we all must deal with healthcare costs, taxes, reporting and regulation burdens along with the challenges of finding, hiring and training the right people, financing growth, and effective decision-making so that business grows and we support our communities through payroll.

I don't mind paying some taxes, after all I do like to drive on solid roads and bridges, eat safe food, take safe medication and not get gouged by finance rates. It makes sense to me that we all should pay a fair share, AND, we should get what we pay for too.

It is tough to fight the good fight alone, which is why I joined WIPP. You may choose to get involved in another group that will get your message to the powers that be--please do! If you are unsure, take my advice and as a concerned person (man or woman!), join WIPP here and let your voice be heard. It was an eye-opener to see what it takes to get a law passed, and the more you know, the better we can hold our elected representatives accountable for their actions. I'll be at WIPP's annual conference in DC in October, I hope to see you there.

Let's look to a great new fiscal year, with new opportunities for new ideas, and solid growth.

Here's to your success!

PS: Of course, we want to help you be as successful as possible too, contact us for accellerated federal market entry.

Faster Payments for Small Businesses

  Clock and money

A new initiative called Quick Pay will cut the time it takes Federal Agencies to pay small businesses. It will change the payment processing time from 30 days to 15 days.  With businesses getting paid faster for services and products provided they can invest back into the economy and spur job growth.

Quick Pay is expected to benefit tens of thousands of small businesses. It will improve cash flow for small businesses and provide them with more predictable stream of income.

The initiative is part of a set of actions to help companies grow and improve America's productivity.  To read the memorandum from President Obama click here

Hot Jobs For 2011:

Proposal Writer

writing

A tough economy is making companies fight harder to win lucrative federal government contracts, and one thing they all need is someone who knows how to respond to the requests for proposals put out by government agencies. Proposal writers are in high demand and the pay they command proves it. Salaries start in the $70,000 range and can top $200,000.

"If you're a good proposal writer, you're worth your weight in platinum because you're helping [companies] win contracts," said Gloria Larkin, president of TargetGov, an Elkridge consulting firm that advises government contractors.
