July 2011                                                               Issue 1

Greetings!

We received a great response regarding whether or not you are interested in participating in peer-to-peer discussions about your experiences in the federal market. We are going forward and will plan the first one for September or October. We'll weigh the issue of fiscal year end vs waiting for the new fiscal year. If you are interested, shoot me an email and let me know. For everyone who has already sent an email, no need to send another. As soon as we have a date/time firmed up, Donna Swann, our office manager, will let you know.

Speaking of Donna Swann, I'd like to introduce you to her. Donna has stepped in to manage the TargetGov team and office. She has a strong background in federal contracting and brings a well-rounded business perspective, can-do attitude and sense of humor to our busy office. If you call or email us, chances are, you will have the opportunity to say hello to her.

Being successful in federal contracting is a multi-layer process. The term "capture" was coined to describe all of the required elements. And over the years many good tools have been developed to provide data and resources. But now, we have so much data available and so many choices, that it feels like one can drown in data and not see real results.

If you are feeling paralyzed by all of the info available from subscription and government resources, or you do not know where to get started or how to get focused on prime targets, attend the no-cost webinar below. We will help you get focused, pull your efforts together and, no matter what resources you are already using, be more effective with them and see results. I have teamed up with national expert Beth Goldstein, to bring this concise, actionable session to you and look forward to your participation on Thursday July 28.

Stay cool, hydrate, and here's to your success!

Why WIPP?

wipp logo

You may know that I have been a WIPP member for a number of years. This is a typical example of why I have chosen that organization -you may find this kind of upper level information appealing too:

The WIPP Economy Committee Policy Briefing will take a look at the status of the talks to raise the debt ceiling, the FY 2012 budget process, including funding highlights, updates on tax reform, and insight into the overall economic climate. Following the briefing, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion with WIPP's Government Relations Team and other WIPP members.

This briefing is just one of the many high level, "seat at the table" sessions that I use to make informed business decisions. It was available only to WIPP members. If you want access to out of the ordinary business and political information that affects you and your business, consider joining WIPP. Click here or call 888.488.WIPP.

Important Change to the Domain Name System: What Non-Profits Need to Know

www image

Earlier this week, the organization that governs the Internet's domain name registry system, ICANN, approved a plan to dramatically increase the number of Internet domain name endings - called generic top level domains. The .org ending, with which most nonprofits are familiar, is likely to be joined by hundreds of new top-level domains. Some domains will be brands, such as .canon. Others will be geography-based, such as .berlin, .africa or .london; cultural or linguistic, such as .zulu; demographic, such as .gay or .fam; or thematic or commercial, such as .eco, .sport, .ski, or .hotel. Community domains designed to operate for the benefit of a specific community also are permitted.

For nonprofits, virtually all of whom rely heavily on the Internet to conduct their activities, the new generic top-level domains may create opportunities and new questions as to how to promote their online presence.

ICANN will soon begin a global campaign to inform the world about this dramatic change in Internet names and to raise awareness of the opportunities afforded by new generic top-level domains. Applications will be accepted from January 12, 2012 through April 12, 2012. Nonprofits should begin considering these issues now.

Thank you to the WCOE for this very interesting article:

The King Solomon Solution

With great fanfare last month, the SBA announced recommended new small business size standards for a number of industries, upgrading many of them for the first time in 20 years. Of special note to WCOE members was the proposed small business category increase for A&E firms from annual revenues of $4.5 million to $19 million. There was an immediate response from some in the A&E community that a 400% increase was too great a leap, would allow nearly all A&E firms to compete as a small business, and "will stifle the competitiveness of small businesses at the lower end of the proposed range".

Countering that assertion, the mid-sized A&E firms say that an increase is necessary because the Federal marketplace is making larger and larger A&E contract awards.

The SBA Office of Advocacy has responded to Khem Sharma (Chief of SBA's Size Standards Division who issued the proposed change) with a Solomonic recommendation. "Advocacy would recommend that SBA consider a size standard for A&E small businesses that is less than the proposed $19 million but one that allows for some growth for these firms in the Federal marketplace.

What Are People Saying About the TargetGov Experience?

"Great session yesterday - six people listening in on the call/webinar (a Sr VP/Proposal folks/Contracting Specialist/Editing/Pricing)  all were very impressed with the presentation..."  L. Jackson

"In my forty years as a consultant

in management and technology I have had opportunity to take many training classes in marketing. Your training classes are the best buy in learning marketing to the Federal Government. Your speakers are experienced in the subject matter and your fees are very low priced. I also appreciate the amount of follow up advice you given."   A. Bahn

I think the teleconference format is very convenient...in fact, I actually listened to one of the conferences while driving back from a meeting with Army representative.  Registering and attending is always super easy. R. Alexander

Was impressed with the registration process. Getting the toolkit link was easy. Download was easy.  Dialing in was flawless. Very easy process.  Name withheld as requested

Registration was easy, conference was valuable.  I'll definitely attend other ones.
M. Creager
