Greetings! It is December (already!), we are in a wild ride economically (more ups and downs than a rollercoaster) and you have two choices regarding your business. Let me take you back a bit, back to the last time were we in a similar dire financial crisis. Think of Sears and Montgomery Wards. Two well established companies that took divergent routes. Montgomery Wards pulled in, closed marginal stores, cut inventory. They basically did what the majority of companies are doing right now-hunkering down for the long haul. Sears, on the other hand, saw an opportunity and instead, expanded inventory, built new stores and positioned themselves to be the go-to store and catalogue service for all of the pent-up buyers that exploded once the economy righted itself. End result: Montgomery Wards struggled for years, never really thriving again, and finally went out of business, while Sears became wildly successful. Moral of the story? Besides the obvious? Well, it is difficult to take a risk and plan to grow right now. It may make you nervous to think of expanding services and hiring new people. But the clear question is where do you want to be in six months? In nine months, a year? Still struggling or more successful than you imagined? Call us today, we'll help you reach that level of success. And remember, we developed our own Economic Stimulus Plan which is in effect the rest of the year. We want you to be as successful as possible, so we are offering every "How To" teleconference at NO COST to you through the rest of the year. Attend this week's session to learn what this government contracting business is all about. And on the 16th to learn about certifications and how to use them. Here's to your success!

Vanity Scams: Don't Fall for Them
You may have seen (and been targeted by) a number of vanity scams. Never heard of a vanity scam? Me neither until I started receiving all kinds of "Who's Who" book listing offers, award notices and writing contests. Today's came from the U.S. Local Business Association, which appears to be running a deceptive and misleading money-grubbing scheme. You can "win" an award, and by the way, buy a plaque from them to commemorate it. You guessed it, as in all of these offers, there was no legitimate "award" -- they just want you to send them money. This is a cruel affront to hard-working business owners who are initially "surprised" and later, embarrassed if they fall for it.

Stressed-who, you?
Quick Fix for the Stressed Out
Stressed out because you've got too much to do and too little time to do it? Dr. Amy Wechsler has a quick tip to help you make it through without getting fried. Hum. Yep, literally. Humming has been scientifically proved to boost nitric oxide (NO), a nifty little body gas that, in small doses, has a stress-reducing effect.

How Entrepreneurial Is Your State?

Which states are leading the United States' transformation into a global, entrepreneurial, knowledge- and innovation-based New Economy -- and which are lagging behind? As a part of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Kauffman Foundation and the Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) released the 2008 State New Economy Index, which ranks the 50 states according to how their economies are structured and their ability to operate effectively in order to compete nationally and globally.
The results? Massachusetts comes out on top by a large margin. Rounding out the top five are: Washington, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey. Some of the key characteristics of these and other high-ranking states include: above-average levels of entrepreneurship; high levels of domestic and foreign immigration of highly skilled knowledge workers; companies geared toward global markets; and, high value-added technologically advanced manufacturing sectors.
